Levy makes new Spurs manager demand

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is demanding one thing as a major priority from any new Spurs manager.

The Lowdown: Conte exit looming?

Despite possessing an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months, it is believed that Lilywhites head coach Antonio Conte could well depart at the end of this Premier League season.

There is apparently a decreasing appetite behind-the-scenes to keep Conte with reliable reports claiming that sporting director Fabio Paratici has already drawn up a managetial shortlist.

On this proposed list, it is believed that Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank all feature as potential candidates to replace Conte.

There have been major calls for Spurs to re-appoint Pochettino in particular with members of the Tottenham fanbase pleading for the Argentine’s reunion.

The Latest: Sky reporter shares Levy manager demand…

Taking to Twitter, reliable Sky journalist Lyall Thomas has shared exactly what every Spurs manager candidate will need to pass Levy’s interview.

Indeed, it is believed that impressing star striker Harry Kane, commanding his respect and potentially persuading him to stay is ‘top of the job spec’.

Thomas said:

“Keeping Harry Kane is Daniel Levy’s top priority and top of the job spec for any new manager (IF Conte leaves) is being able to command Kane’s respect and help keep him at the club.”

The Verdict: Huge priority…

Regardless of who eventually comes in to replace Conte if he does leave, there is little arguing that keeping Kane happy and at the club should be very much top of the priority list.

Tottenham appear to have an array of talented coaches to target for the managerial role, but the same certainly cannot be said of strikers to replace Kane.

Anybody who comes in to succeed the England international would most likely command a marquee fee and it is debateable whether they would contribute to the same effectiveness as Kane.

Boasting 20 goals in 27 league games, the 29-year-old is also Tottenham’s best-performing player by average match rating this season (WhoScored).

His ability to drop deep and link up play is also a huge asset to Spurs with Kane clinching both the Playmaker of the Year award and Golden Boot at the end of this 2020/2021 season.

Homegrown and Tottenham’s prodigal son, perhaps even the greatest managers in world football would have a mountainous task on their hands filling a Kane-shaped hole in Spurs’ first team.

Gianluca Scamacca not looking to leave West Ham amid rumours

Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca is happy at the club and his change in agents has nothing to do with a transfer exit.

What’s the latest on West Ham, Scamacca and his agent?

Earlier this week, World Soccer Agency announced they will no longer represent the Italian forward who currently plays for the Hammers.

Indeed, his now former agents noted that “the trust necessary for a healthy professional relationship” had been broken and so they would be parting ways with Scamacca.

Consequently, rumours in the Italian media have suggested that the player could be on the move this summer, suggesting that the latest development could mean he wants a return to Serie A.

However, in a written update shared to The West Ham Way Patreon, Ex revealed: “We have had it confirmed to us that Scamacca is happy at the club and that the change of agency has nothing to do with his future he just wanted to be represented by someone else and players change agents all the time without publicity.”

What does the Scamacca news mean for West Ham?

The former Sassuolo man ended up in the Premier League at the start of the season on a five-year contract plus the option of a further 12 months after agreeing to a £35.5m transfer.

Since then, you could argue he’s not had the most fantastic debut season. After all, he has as many yellow cards (three) as he does have goals in the league this term for David Moyes.

However, injury issues have recently prevented him from truly building up a run of momentum and he does still have seven goals in all competitions which makes him West Ham’s joint second-highest goalscorer.

All in all, it sounds as though his change of agent has little to do with the Irons and so fans can probably relax if they were fearing a possible summer exit already.

What’s more, he’s already being linked with a new agency as The Sun report he could join CAA Stellar, who represent other Premier League players such as Jack Grealish, Jordan Pickford and Ben Chilwell – which may hint at a likelihood to remain in England.

Tottenham: Yves Bissouma ‘could miss rest of the season’

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma ‘could miss rest of the season’ after suffering his stress fracture, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Bissouma sidelined…

The Spurs summer signing has joined goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on the treatment table, requiring an operation on Friday to fix his injury problem.

Bissouma could now be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with Tottenham explaining that a timeframe will be better understood after surgery.

The Mali international has already struggled for Premier League game time this season but it now appears Bissouma could struggle even more following this setback.

The Latest: Bissouma ‘could miss rest of the season’…

According to Football Insider, Bissouma ‘faces a battle to play for Tottenham’ and ‘could miss rest of the season’, with it believed he ‘could struggle’ to feature again this term.

The former Brighton star is facing a potential three-month absence, including rehabilitation and getting up to match fitness, a timeframe which could mean he is unavailable for the remainder of 2022/2023.

The Verdict: Blow for Conte…

Antonio Conte will be hoping Bissouma does in fact beat this timeline given the sheer volume of competitive games remaining for Tottenham.

The Lilywhites are still competing in both Europe and the FA Cup as things stand, as well as the English top flight.

A player of Bissouma’s quality, even off the bench, would be a real asset to Conte and Spurs as they approach the business end of the season.

The African stood out as one of Brighton’s star players last season but hasn’t been able to showcase his true ability in a Spurs shirt thus far.

As the north Londoners eagerly await the results of his surgery, supporters and Conte will have their fingers crossed that he can make a swift, swift recovery.

Leeds: Mills tears into ‘bizarre’ club approach for new manager

Danny Mills of TalkSport has labelled Leeds United’s ‘plan’ to find a new manager as ‘bizarre’ following the sacking of Jesse Marsch.

The Lowdown: Marsch axed

Following their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, the club decided to sack Marsch after he’d been in charge for less than a year.

They were linked with West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan, but he recently signed a new contract with the Championship outfit.

Rayo Vallecano of La Liga blocked the Whites’ pursuit of their boss Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot of Feyenoord has also turned down the Premier League club.

The Latest: Mills baffled

Mills was left baffled with the current situation  and claims the club seem to be scrambling for candidates after sacking Marsch when speaking on TalkSport.

He stated (0:00), “I just find it bizarre that these global businesses, massive football clubs are making rash, snap decisions with no plan going forward.

“It’s almost like they saw the Everton result, they saw the Wolves result, The Leicester result, they lost to Forest as well and it was like, oh, let’s just press the red panic button and let’s just sack the manager.

“Now who are we going to get? Well, we can’t get Carlos Corberan, he doesn’t want to come or West Brom are not prepared to let him go.

“Let’s go and get the guy from Rayo Vallecano. Oh, he’s not coming now that they’ve blocked that. Now where are we gonna go? I find it incredible that you sack somebody and there’s no plan.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates-copy-2/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates (Copy)” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Added fuel

The whole managerial situation going on at Leeds is certainly frustrating from a suppoerters perspective and will add the fuel of frustation they have with their chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

It’s no secret that there’s some animosity between the supporters and Radrizzani in recent times and this whole circus surronding a new manager will enrage them even more.

He even tweeted about the siutation and was confident a new manager would be on the way soon, but that tweet has now been deleted.

Whoever Leeds appoint they should look to get someone with Premier League experience, they’re only one point above the drop zone.

In our view it’s looking like an incredibly tight battle down at the bottom, so having somone who knows the divison well could give them the advantage over a number of the teams in and aorund the mix.

Manchester United: Erik ten Hag eyeing Lautaro Martinez move

Manchester United appear to have an interest in Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.

The Lowdown: World Cup winner

Martinez helped his country win the World Cup last year, featuring in all but one of the seven fixtures in Qatar.

The 25-year-old can play as a centre-forward or as a second striker and has been in fine form for Inter this season, contributing to 13 goals in 18 Serie A goals. His displays appear to have caught the eye of Old Trafford officials, although he is under contract at the San Siro until 2026.

The Latest: United eyeing move

Calciomercato shared an update regarding Martinez on Friday, where United and Premier League rivals Tottenham were named.

The report stated that Erik ten Hag’s side are admirers of the forward and that Inter Milan would consider a sale if a €100m offer arrived. They add that United defender Lisandro Martinez, who won the World Cup alongside the striker, ‘could advocate his purchase’.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-news-10/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Big money

Paul Pogba cost United €105m back in 2016, so it seems as if United will need to make Martinez their second most expensive signing of all time to have any chance of securing a transfer.

A new marquee forward appears to be needed in 2023, though, especially as there is no option to make Wout Weghorst’s loan move permanent in the summer.

That could leave Ten Hag back at square one with Anthony Martial as the club’s only recognised centre-forward, so signing Martinez, lauded as a ‘beast‘ by Inter team-mate Romelu Lukaku, could be a statement of intent.

He’s the most valuable Argentine player on the planet and the fifth most valuable striker at €75m, as per Transfermarkt, and following his impressive displays in front of goal this season, Martinez could be a clever signing.

Liverpool predicted XI vs Chelsea

Liverpool will host Chelsea in their Premier League clash at Anfield in the early kick-off and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that his team can bring their confident performance from the FA Cup replay earlier this week into today’s meeting.

The Reds are currently ninth in the top flight table, whilst Chelsea are 10th, and taking all three points in front of the home support would put them just two behind Tottenham Hotspur in fifth.

In terms of injuries, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, Arthur Melo and Roberto Firmino remain unavailable for selection, however, there is one important player who could be set for a return to the starting line-up.

Klopp confirmed in his pre-match press conference that star summer signing Darwin Nunez will be in contention to start this afternoon which will be a huge boost for Liverpool in their attacking threat.

With that in mind, this is how we at Football FanCast expect Liverpool to line up against Chelsea…

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson Becker (GK); Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB), Ibrahima Konate (CB) Joe Gomez (CB), Andy Robertson (LB); Fabinho (CDM), Thiago Alcantara (CM), Naby Keita (CM); Mohammed Salah (RW), Darwin Nunez (ST), Cody Gakpo (LW).

We predict that Klopp will make six changes to the team that beat Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this week.

The first two changes we expect to see are Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson reprising their roles in the back four alongside Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the two centre-backs retain their spots in the team after keeping a clean sheet at Molineux and with Van Dijk still absent a bit of continuity in the back line certainly wouldn’t hurt.

In midfield, we predict that the Liverpool boss will make just one change with Fabinho returning to the starting line-up alongside Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara in the centre of the pitch.

We expect Mohammed Salah and Darwin Nunez to join Cody Gakpo in the front three, with the newly signed Dutchman moving out to the left replacing Fabio Carvalho in order to make way for his 23-year-old teammate.

The Uruguayan striker – who was hailed “scary” by Jamie Carragher – will likely return to his centre-forward role this afternoon as his unpredictable and energetic presence in the forward line could terrify Chelsea’s defenders.

It won’t be an easy clash when the Reds meet Graham Potter’s side, however, Klopp will surely be hoping that the return of Nunez and Salah in the team can get them off to an early lead in front of the Anfield crowd during his 1000th game in management.

West Ham likely to move for Michael Keane

West Ham United are likely to move for centre-back Michael Keane in the January window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Lowdown: Keane surplus at Everton

Keane has seen his Everton career completely fizzle out, with only 22 minutes of action coming in the Premier League this season as a late substitute against Brentford in August.

He’s been named on the bench 14 times this season but hasn’t been involved in the Toffees’ two league games back after the World Cup break, with James Tarkowski and Conor Coady ousting their English teammate.

The Latest: On the move

The Athletic previously reported that the 29-year-old could be a short-term option in east London, with their defensive issues potentially mounting if Craig Dawson leaves in January.

Brown told GiveMeSport that he’s definitely a player on David Moyes’ radar.

“I think he’s quite an underrated player who would fit quite well into that back four.

“I could see this one happening. There’s a deal to be done there, definitely. If West Ham want him badly enough, I think they’ll get him in January.”

The Verdict: Smart signing

Despite Keane’s omission from the Everton side, he’s a centre-back with vast Premier League experience who could prove a smart short-term signing.

The ability to add a seasoned Premier League defender like Keane whilst taking an option off a potential relegation rival is one that the Hammers should definitely consider, especially on a short-term basis as it would be a risk-free option without being left to necessarily fork out on a fee or expensive wages if it doesn’t work out.

West Ham’s depleted centre-back options and league position mean a new arrival may well be needed, with Nayef Aguerd’s fitness still a real problem as five straight defeats plunge them further into danger.

With Keane in the top 2% for goals and 10% for aerials won amongst centre-backs at this level (via FBref), he’s also a viable attacking threat – and the Hammers need goals from anywhere right now, with the Hammers currently having the third-worst attack in the top flight.

QPR: Critchley set for early boost

Queens Park Rangers look set to appoint Neil Critchley as their new manager at Loftus Road and the 44-year-old could be set for an early boost with Aston Villa loanee Tim Iroegbunam.

Football League World have claimed that the former Blackpool boss is now in pole position to take over as the west London side’s new manager, just over a week after Michael Beale’s move to Rangers was confirmed.

A recent tweet claimed that, after an impressive start to life at Loftus Road, Iroegbunam could be recalled by new Villa boss Unai Emery in the January transfer window, with the view to giving him some game time in the Premier League.

Considering the teenage midfielder has started ten of QPR’s 21 games in the Championship so far this season, coming off the bench in another three, it seems clear that he is going to be an important member of the Hoops’ side in the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.

Fortunately for new boss Critchley, who will have worked briefly with Iroegbunam during his spell as assistant manager at Aston Villa, it now seems as if he will remain a QPR player until the end of the current season.

BirminghamLive reporter Ashley Preece has confirmed that Villa won’t exercise their option to recall him, despite a lack of options in central midfield for Emery.

After making his debut for Villa last season, Beale – who was assistant to Gerrard at the time – said: “He is a top young footballer and super impressive young man also. A very bright future ahead.”

Gerrard was also full of praise for Iroegbunam’s performance and potential after watching him in an U23s game against Norwich City.

He said: “He’s a long project for us to work at. He’s still very raw but he’s got a lot of attributes that we like.

“In the middle bit of the game, he was outstanding and looked like a Premier League player. He’s one I’m excited to keep developing and keep polishing up. He’s a great kid, humble, and needs to keep working.”

The 19-year-old already ranks in the top five QPR players for tackles, dribbles and shots per game so far this campaign, which suggests that he could be in line for a big second half of the season under Critchley, who will surely be delighted that he will be staying in west London.
