Kings XI Punjab’s final match followed the narrative of much of their season, as their underwhelming 130 for 7 in Mohali was reeled in with seven wickets and 20 balls to spare by Chennai Super Kings. Six of the seven bowlers Super Kings used picked up wickets, with left-arm spinner Pawan Negi taking two. They sealed their position at the top of the table, and are assured a place in the first qualifier. Faf du Plessis hit 55 from 41 balls to lead the largely straightforward chase. Suresh Raina stayed unbeaten on 41 at the finish, with a 16-ball 25 from MS Dhoni hastening the end.Kings XI began brightly enough, as Wriddhiman Saha – the star of their Wednesday win over Royal Challengers Bangalore – hit a four in Negi’s first over, then rocked back to launch Ishwar Pandey into the stands beyond square leg soon after. Expecting more aggression, Negi looped the second ball of his second over up outside off stump, and drew the false shot. Saha had attempted to thrash the ball over the off side, but managed only to lob it to cover, to collect 15 from 12.Ashish Nehra then struck with his first ball, pushing one across George Bailey who sent a nick through to the wicketkeeper . The wickets just kept tumbling thereafter. Manan Vohra top-edged a cut shot to third man to leave his side 35 for 3 in the sixth over. Gurkeerat Singh Mann hoped to attack his side out of the mire, when he advanced to R Ashwin immediately after cutting him behind point for four in the ninth over, but the bowler anticipated the batsman’s advance. Ashwin slowed up the ball, pitched short, and spun it past Gurkeerat’s thigh pad, for Dhoni to complete a simple stumping.Glen Maxwell was out playing around a straightforward delivery from Ravindra Jadeja. David Miller was caught superbly on the legside outfield when he had nearly bludgeoned the cover off the ball. Nothing Kings XI’s top order did seemed to result in a meaningful partnership. There was no clear theme to their downfall on a batting-friendly surface, save perhaps for several batsmen’s scrambled approach after a tough season.Rishi Dhawan and Axar Patel put on the innings’ longest stand – a 44-run effort that pushed the team above 120. But even with the 14-run 19th over off Dwayne Bravo, the hosts did not appear to have made enough.Michael Hussey, playing his first game of the season, and Brendon McCullum, playing his last, were each dismissed inside two overs to raise the crowd’s hopes of an upset. But du Plessis and Raina coasted through the early and middle overs, attacking only the wayward deliveries to stay in touch with the modest required rate. Du Plessis’ running six over long on and pull shot past deep midwicket off Axar in the 12th over was as violent as his innings got.He was bowled making room to hit through the off side with victory in sight, but Dhoni waltzed in and quickly secured the two points. He hit two sixes off Anureet Singh, then all but finished the game with a glide to third man.

Conseguimos impor nosso ritmo, mérito total do time – analisou defensor.

India likely to go ahead with Zimbabwe tour

Despite recent doubts that have emerged over India’s forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe, a second-string Indian squad is likely to travel for the short series that comprises three ODIs and two Twenty20 matches

Kalra: Formal announcement expected in couple of days

Despite recent doubts that have emerged over India’s forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe, a second-string Indian squad is likely to be named this month for the three ODIs and two Twenty20 matches. The tour, scheduled from July 10 to 19, is likely to go forward with officials from both the boards ironing out last-minute details on the sidelines of the ongoing ICC annual conference in Barbados this week. A formal confirmation is awaited in the coming days once the top officials from BCCI and Zimbabwe Cricket conclude their discussions. “They are still talking. [But] it should be fine. We are making progress,” an official privy to discussions in Barbados, told ESPNcricinfo.Doubts over the series emerged in the past few weeks with reports indicating the BCCI was unhappy about the tour being broadcast by Ten Sports, a subsidiary of Essel Group which recently revealed its plans to form another anti-establishment T20 league, subsequently rattling the ICC.In response, an ICC emergency committee – comprising chairman N Srinivasan, ECB’s Giles Clarke, and CA’s Wally Edwards – was set up to investigate Essel Group’s new venture. Considering that Ten Sports owns the broadcasting rights for home matches for a sizeable number of the ten Full Member countries – South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe – the BCCI has been wary.Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Wiliam Manase acknowledged the BCCI’s concern over Ten Sports in a media release recently, stating the tour could be postponed to next year if negotiations were not successful. “If the matters take too long to resolve, ZC and the BCCI might mutually agree to push the tour to next year,” Manase said.A strong indication that most of the hurdles had been cleared came via a promotional advertisement put out by Ten Sports on Wednesday. According to a Ten Sports spokesperson, he had not heard anything negative from Zimbabwe Cricket till as late as Tuesday. “We have not heard anything from Zimbabwe Cricket which points out the tour is not happening. We speak to them every day,” the spokesperson said.So far the BCCI has not made any reaction on record, but insiders say the selectors are likely to meet on June 29 to pick a second-string Indian squad for the tour.

Wright pulls off amazing century heist

Luke Wright smashed an amazing century to guide Sussex to an astonishing three-wicket NatWest T20 Blast win over Gloucestershire at Bristol as he once again underlined his status as one of domestic cricket’s finest T20 stars. With just two overs remaining, the visitors still required 43 to overtake Gloucestershire’s 185 for 4. But the 19th over, bowled – initially at least – by James Fuller saw the game turned on its head as 34 runs were added.Wright hit four sixes off it, the last after Fuller had been ordered out of the attack for two no-balled full tosses and Craig Miles was forced to bowl the final delivery. That left only nine needed from the final over, sent down by off-spinner Jack Taylor, and two more Wright boundaries sealed a sensational victory with a ball to spare.Insights

Gloucestershire are proving to be a strong and well-rounded team this season and they should continue to challenge for a quarter-final place despite this defeat. However, they arguably lost this match, and may lose similar matches in the future, because they lack an international quality, standout player, be that with bat or ball, but especially ball. Of their starting XI, only Hamish Marshall and Geraint Jones have played international cricket, and neither have done so for almost a decade. The likes of James Fuller can’t be relied upon to close out matches.

Wright finished unbeaten on 111, having played virtually a lone hand with the bat for his side. He had cracked 7 fours and 8 sixes in facing just 56 deliveries.”I’m especially delighted being skipper this season,” Wright said. “When I took that role on I always thought the best way I could lead was with performances like that. I changed my bat for a bit of luck, they started to miss their lengths and I finally managed to get a few out of the middle.”With ten overs left I felt we had too much to do because they were bowling so well. But in the end the kept putting the ball in my area and it was a very special night for me. We chased down 220 in 19 overs in a remarkable game against Essex last year, but in terms of the game’s importance against a side close to us in the table, this was even more special.”Gloucestershire’s captain Michael Klinger said: “It was a crushing defeat for us in the circumstances, but all the credit must go to Luke Wright for a fantastic innings. James Fuller had a plan for bowling to him in the penultimate over and simply couldn’t execute it.”Earlier, Klinger had taken his NatWest T20 Blast run tally for the season to 518 in just seven innings as Gloucestershire posted what looked a winning score only for Klinger, outstanding all season, to be denied once again. After a delayed start until 6pm, the Australian shared an opening stand of 88 in 10.4 overs with Hamish Marshall (37) after winning the toss.Marshall, returning after a calf injury, lost nothing in comparison with his captain, scoring his runs off 27 balls, with 4 fours and a six, before being caught at mid-on attempting to pull a ball from Tymal Mills.Ian Cockbain, also enjoying an excellent run in the competition, then joined Klinger, who reached a 41-ball half-century, with 4 fours and a six.The pair added 42 in four overs, taking unusually heavy toll on Michael Yardy, whose three overs cost 41, before Klinger skied a catch to wicketkeeper Craig Cachopa attempting a big hit off Chris Liddle. Cockbain hit three sixes in moving to 30 off 16 balls. And after he was bowled off an inside edge by Mills, Benny Howell and Geraint Jones ensured Gloucestershire of a competitive total. The Sussex response got off to a poor start when Chris Nash, having hit the first ball of the innings for four, fell lbw to James Fuller two deliveries later. It was 13 for two when Matt Machan got a leading edge to Klinger at cover in Fuller’s next over and 51 for three when Craig Cachopa fell for 18, caught at long-off to give left-arm spinner Tom Smith his 17th wicket in South Group matches.Despite Wright’s best efforts, Sussex were only 67 for three at the halfway stage of their innings. And when George Bailey smacked a Benny Howell full toss straight to Marshall at deep mid-wicket their chance looked to have gone. When Smith struck again to have Harry Finch stumped the asking rate was already above 13 an over. Two Wright sixes saw 21 come off the 17th over from Kieran Noema-Barnett, but Taylor conceded only five off the next and Gloucestershire seemed as good as home. Wright had other ideas as a woeful over from Fuller changed the course of the match

FALHOU!

As chances não eram claras, porém o time chegou a assustar. Digão, Paulo Henrique Ganso e João Pedro tiveram as melhores chances.

Shehzad replaces Manzoor in Pakistan World T20 squad

Pakistan have replaced batsman Khurram Manzoor with Ahmed Shehzad in their World T20 squad

Bazid: No alternatives to Shehzad for Pakistan

Pakistan have replaced batsman Khurram Manzoor with Ahmed Shehzad in their World T20 squad, with chief selector Haroon Rasheed admitting that Manzoor’s inclusion was a gamble that “backfired” in the Asia Cup.Based on the Asia Cup performances, there had been a lot of deliberation among the selectors at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. The top order was the main concern with Mohammad Hafeez, Manzoor and Sharjeel Khan combining for just 94 runs in Pakistan’s four games in the tournament. To address the batting issues, the selectors brought back the experienced Shehzad, who was earlier dropped for his inconsistency. He won his place back with his performance in the Pakistan Super League, where he scored 290 runs in ten games at a strike-rate of 143.56, including a half-century in the final.Pakistan’s World T20 squad

Shahid Afridi (capt), Ahmed Shehzad, Anwar Ali, Imad Wasim, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Sami, Mohammad Nawaz, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Sharjeel Khan, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Wahab Riaz

“The inclusion of Khurram backfired and as a chief selector I take full responsibility,” Haroon Rasheed told ESPNcricinfo. “Call it an error of judgement or whatever, but we all have seen him scoring runs in domestic cricket and we gave him a chance. He didn’t grab it, it’s up to the player to justify his selection and in his case he didn’t. We gambled on [Shoaib] Malik last year and it paid off.”Now when we look around for who is going to replace Khurram, we don’t really have a serious contender, but Ahmed at least has some experience under his belt. He did show some form in PSL too, otherwise we haven’t seen any other [impressive] opening batsman.”There were suggestions that Salman Butt might be added to the squad but the idea was shot down; the board is not ready to reintegrate the former captain into the squad so soon after the end of his ban for spot-fixing in 2010. Butt, though, is “eligible” to play international cricket and recently scored 536 runs at 107.20 to finish second highest run-scorer in the National One-Day Cup behind Kamran Akmal. But captain Shahid Afridi opposed Butt’s selection and that along with the PCB’s lack of interest in bringing him back at this point meant Shehzad got the nod. There were also murmurs of Afridi’s place in the team being in question but he has been retained. He is set to call time on his international career at the end of the World T20 and his form was another major worry to come out of the Asia Cup; he scored only two runs in two innings there, and claimed two wickets from three bowling innings, continuing his year-long dip in form (17 T20s for 173 runs at 12.35 and 12 wickets at 35.41). During the Asia Cup he remained a mere shadow of his former self, reportedly skipping team meetings, training sessions and press conferences as well as having his on-field captaincy scrutinised, especially the way he used his bowlers.PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan had previously hinted at a change in leadership for the World T20 but with just a few days left for Pakistan’s tournament to begin the board decided against such a move. “I understand there is a lot of criticism but I am not going to change anything one week before the major tournament in India,” Khan recently said. “Afridi will remain captain unless he himself pulls out of the job. He has been serving Pakistan from the last 15 years. There are problems in his captaincy which can’t be mended, especially at a time when his career is about to be end.”
