Big picture The last time Bangladesh and Sri Lanka met in a Test was in March 2013, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo with long grass on the outfield. But now he is no longer a part of the Bangladesh set-up, having been embroiled in the BPL corruption controversy.The focus has shifted to the likes of Mushfiqur, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and over the last twelve months to Nasir Hossain, Mominul Haque, Sohag Gazi and Robiul Islam. For now, it seems Shamsur is likely to get a look in. There is also some doubt about the third spinner’s position, in which case Mahmudullah could replace Abdur Razzak. Sri Lanka Cricket has effectively confirmed the tour of Bangladesh will go ahead as scheduled, after secretary Nishantha Ranatunga expressed satisfaction in the security plans prepared for the team’s four-week tour. The board had dispatched a two-man security delegation to Bangladesh in the past week , and had found nothing in their consequent report to suggest the tour should be changed.”From the report that we received, we feel it’s safe for our players to go,” Ranatunga said. “We had never taken a decision not to go there. We’re happy with the way they have presented the security plans, and the commitments they have given.”SLC’s executive committee must still provide official confirmation the tour is going ahead, but Ranatunga said the final decision is only a formality, unless the security situation in Bangladesh changes drastically over the following days. The confirmation is due on the January 23, fewer than 24 hours before the team’s scheduled departure, the details of which were confirmed via an official release on Monday.Ranatunga also confirmed the match scheduled for the northeastern town of Sylhet would be relocated, in order to minimise risk for the players. “We asked that that match be moved because it involved too much travelling for the players. We are happy for it to be played at either of the other venues.”SLC had maintained its commitment to the tour throughout the political upheaval in Bangladesh, although it withheld final confirmation as it monitored the developing situation. وواصل: “المفاوضات مع النادي السعودي لم تكن سهلة، لأن قبل عرض الخليج كان هناك عرض من فاتح جمرك وكونيا سبور من الدوري التركي، وقبلها بعام عروض من الإمارات والسعودية وآخر روسي، والنادي الأهلي كان في ذلك التوقيت لديه بطولات مهمة وشريف فضل التركيز مع النادي”.

وأضاف: “كانت هناك صعوبة في المفاوضات والعرض كان مميزًا من النادي السعودي، وشريف يريد العودة لمنتخب مصر ويشارك في عدد دقائق أكبر، والوضع في الفترة الماضية كان لا يساعد فكرة عودته لصفوف الفراعنة”.

وأكمل عن حقيقة وجود شرط جزائي في عقد شريف بأن لا يلعب في نادي بمصر سوى للأهلي: “لا يعتبر شرط جزائي بمبلغ معين مقابل عودة اللاعب للدوري المصري، هو شرط ينص أن الأولوية تكون للنادي الأهلي حال عودته”.

واختتم: “يوجد نسبة من إعادة البيع 15% للأهلي، محمد شريف رغبته الأولى والأخيرة ستكون للمارد الأحمر، مع احترامي لكل الأندية، الأهلي بمثابة بيته، واللاعب لم يتلق أي عرض من نادي بيراميدز أو الزمالك”.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said India need spinners Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha in the team to win more Tests overseas, and attributed the losses in New Zealand to the spinners, not the fast bowlers.”I don’t think pacers are a reason for India’s defeat,” Ganguly told . “But it’s our spin department where we’re lacking. Dhoni has to think about his spin department. Jadeja has no variation. We also need to bring back Harbhajan Singh. He has good record overseas. Both of them [Harbhajan and Ojha] are a must especially in Test cricket.”Jadeja failed to impress in the two Tests in New Zealand, with three wickets to his name in 89 overs at an average of 85.66. Ashwin, on the other hand, struggled in the five ODIs preceding the Tests, picking only one wicket in 44 overs at an average of 227. Ashwin has an outstanding home record in Tests, but hasn’t fared too well overseas, taking nine wickets at 74.77.Ojha’s last Test was the second Test against West Indies in Mumbai, where he took 10 wickets in a Man-of-the-Match performance, and was the second-highest wicket-taker in the series behind Ashwin. However, he did not get a game in the two-Test series in South Africa and was not picked for the subsequent New Zealand Tests.”I’m highly surprised at Ojha’s exclusion,” Ganguly said. “He has the ability to take five wickets. If you see his career, he got five wickets in Mumbai on the first day, in the same conditions where Ashwin got three. Simon Helmot has stood down from his coaching roles with Victoria, although he will stay on as head coach of the Melbourne Renegades. Helmot has served as an assistant to Greg Shipperd with Victoria’s Sheffield Shield team since 2008-09 and two years later was promoted to become head coach of the state’s Ryobi Cup side.Helmot steered the Bushrangers to the Ryobi Cup title in his first season in charge, but he has decided to expand his horizons internationally. Helmot was recently appointed coach of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Premier League and is also an assistant with the Hyderabad Sunrisers in the IPL.”The Bushrangers have provided me with so many opportunities and have become like family over the years,” Helmot said. “It’s a bittersweet time because I’ve given my all over the past seven years and I’ll be leaving a place that holds so many fond memories, but I feel the grounding I’ve gained here has given me something to offer internationally, and that’s exciting.”Winning the one-day title in my first year was definitely a career highlight. Seeing players develop and go on and play for Australia, in all formats, has given me great satisfaction. وقال أنشيلوتي في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية: “لعب كيبا بشكل جيد، كانت مباراة جماعية جيدة، لم يكن انتصارًا جيدًا، ولكن أظهرنا الالتزام”.
