– Falar do Aranha é fácil.

Rangers team news: Barisic out, Jack in

This is part of The Transfer Tavern’s Talking Tactics series, where we analyse two changes the manager should make in their upcoming fixture.

Glasgow Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst simply must get a reaction out of his players after the embarrassing 3-0 loss at the hands of their bitter rivals, and that may even mean making bold calls that could upset both players and some fans.

They face another test at home to third-placed Hearts on Sunday afternoon, and the Dutchman cannot afford to leave Ibrox with anything less than three points.

Injury updates

The talk of the town in Glasgow ever since Transfer Deadline Day has been the arrival of Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus, a player who has won numerous big titles with both the Juventus and Arsenal.

He could potentially make his debut against Hearts, with Gio confirming in his pre-game press conference that his fitness will be assessed.

Alfredo Morelos is also available after coming back from international duty with Colombia, and so the manager needs to decide whether to throw him in straight away as well.

Barisic out

Barisic quite frankly endured a first-half nightmare against Celtic, so much so that he was hauled off at half-time.

The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell claimed that he was ‘fast asleep’ for the Hoops’ third goal, for which Liel Abada managed to sneak in past him unmarked and unchallenged.

BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer, Tom English, even went as far as to claim that he looked ‘punch-drunk’, testament to a player who gave the ball away a total of nine times in just 45 minutes.

Leon Balogun, who replaced the Croatia international at half-time, would be the obvious choice to come in, with Calvin Bassey moving to his more natural position at left-back.

Jack in

Speaking after the match, Gio claimed that Jack was ‘the best man on the pitch in the second half’, saying that he ‘changed’ the game and ‘made a big difference’ (Rangers TV via Yahoo).

Indeed, the 29-year-old was ranked as the Teddy Bears’ joint-best (7.1) player on SofaScore despite only playing the second half, as he recorded 55 touches of the ball from the middle of the park, more than starters Scott Arfield (52) and Glen Kamara (34), and achieved an impressive 90% pass accuracy, the fifth-highest in the team.

He has not yet started a game for the Light Blues so far this season, and Hearts would offer the perfect opportunity for Gio to rectify that, despite the arrival of fellow midfielder Ramsey.

With only a 6.4 SofaScore rating, and having just come back from African Cup of Nations (AFCON) duty with Nigeria, Aribo would perhaps be the unlucky one to drop out, but would at least offer Gio some quality from the bench if things are going wrong on the pitch again.

First test of Pakistan's unity

The Pakistan selectors have, possibly by accident, stumbled upon a well-balanced one-day outfit, but Sri Lanka will take some beating given the class and form of their players

The Preview by Nitin Sundar14-Jun-2010Match FactsTuesday, June 15, 2010

The return of Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik could add to the interest surrounding the opening game•AFP

The Big PicturePakistan cricket is in the spotlight, once again. Having endured a period of internal upheaval, they have zeroed in on a squad full of surprises. One former captain retired, while two others appealed successfully against their bans. One of those two – Shoaib Malik – returned to the side and will be playing under a new leader, Shahid Afridi, who not very long ago accused Malik of back-biting. Out of nowhere, the once spectacular Shoaib Akhtar was recalled. Even faithful fans struggle to keep track of the changes, while critics question the madness surrounding the method. But one thing everyone will acknowledge is that the selectors have hit upon a reasonably balanced ODI outfit.Pakistan have traditionally under-performed at the Asia Cup, winning just one tournament, and their recent one-day record is miserable, but they have managed to lift their game in recent multi-team events. Admittedly, three of those four have been in the Twenty20 format, and there-in lies the danger Pakistan poses – both to their opponents and to themselves. They have the ability to go all the way with short and sharp bursts of inspiration, but are just as likely to combust.Sri Lanka’s selectors, on the other hand, have shown creativity and foresight, while their core group for the 2011 World Cup is set in stone. Sanath Jayasuriya and Ajantha Mendis were the heroes of their 2008 Asia Cup triumph, but both of them miss out this time, for differing reasons. Jayasuriya’s form has finally taken precedence over reputation, while Mendis’ exclusion is to enhance his biggest weapon – his mystery. Tillakaratne Dilshan, who could not buy a run in the World Twenty20, was sent to Zimbabwe to regain touch, which he accomplished in style. Farveez Maharoof has been included in the squad for his past exploits on the seaming Dambulla wicket. There are several names such as Thilina Kandamby, Thilan Samaraweera and Chamara Kapugedera competing for middle-order slots. Add the pedigree of Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan to the mix and Sri Lanka will take some beating.Form guide (most recent first)Pakistan LLLLL
Sri Lanka WLWWL
Watch out for…Ever since he began opening during the IPL, Mahela Jayawardene has been in sublime form in the Twenty20 format. He is expected to return to the middle order for ODIs, but for a batsman with his range it should be an easy transition. He is the most prolific run-getter on this ground, followed by his captain Kumar Sangakkara, and their middle-over association could dictate the course of the game.Umar Akmal has quickly grown within the Pakistan establishment and, in the absence of Misbah-ul-Haq, will be expected to play responsibly in the middle order. So far, the biggest threat to Umar’s performance has been his impulsiveness, and it will be interesting to see if he can temper his natural aggression for the team’s cause.Team newsPakistan are expected to give 20-year old left-hand batsman Umar Amin a debut. Shahid Afridi will mull the option of playing three quicks, with Shoaib Akhtar returning alongside Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer. It remains to be seen if Shoaib can bowl his full quota of ten overs, and Pakistan have hinted they will use him in short bursts.Pakistan (possible) 1 Salman Butt, 2 Kamran Akmal (wk), 3 Umar Amin, 4 Umar Akmal, 5 Shoaib Malik, 6 Abdul Razzaq, 7 Shahid Afridi (capt), 8 Saeed Ajmal, 9 Shoaib Akhtar/Abdur Rehman, 11 Mohammad Asif, 12 Mohammad AamerRangana Herath got a surprise call-up as the third spinner, but he is unlikely to get a look-in given Suraj Randiv’s recent exploits. On form, Nuwan Kulasekara deserves to play, which could delay Maharoof’s comeback unless the selectors decide to leave Lasith Malinga out.Sri Lanka (possible) 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt/wk) 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Angelo Mathews, 6 Thilan Samaraweera, 7 Thilina Kandamby/Chamara Kapugedera, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara 9 Farveez Maharoof/Lasith Malinga 10 Suraj Randiv, 11 Muttiah Muralitharan..Stats and trivia Pakistan have played eight games in Dambulla and lost six of them; four of those defeats came in five games against the hosts. Sri Lanka have won 17 of their 24 games at this venue. Muttiah Muralitharan relishes bowling here, with 39 wickets in 18 games at an average of 16.87 and an economy rate of 3.73.Quotes”Akhtar is an influential player. The type of effort he’s putting in, hope he’ll prove a point.”
“I think it is a timely and great decision to have someone with that experience on the panel of people that has to decide on the future as well as the present.”

The third Test of New Zealand’s tour of India will be played in Nagpur in November after the original hosts, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), backed out citing the renovation work going at the Wankhede Stadium. The BCCI has also announced the venues for the five-ODI bilateral series that follows the Tests. The Wankhede Stadium is undergoing a facelift ahead of the World Cup next year, and the MCA had said it didn’t want to rush things and host a Test without a proper trial run.Since the renovation work began, the nearby Brabourne Stadium has been hosting matches, including first-class games. It staged a Test between India and Sri Lanka last December and the home matches of Mumbai Indians during the third season of the IPL.The one-day leg of the series will be held in Guwahati, Mohali, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. There is no change in the scheduling and venues of the first two Tests: Ahmedabad hosts the first between November 4th and 8th with Kanpur staging the next between November 12th and 16th.The New Zealand series takes place soon after India host Australia for two Tests and three ODIs. The Indian board has advanced the start of both Tests against Ricky Ponting’s side by a day (first Test at Mohali begins on October 1 and the next at Bangalore on the 9th), and the first two ODIs by two days.

VERDÃO MAL NO PRIMEIRO TEMPO

Dobrou a marca!

West Brom predicted XI vs Blackburn Rovers

West Brom must seize their opportunity to climb two league positions in the Championship tonight when they take on Blackburn Rovers at the Hawthorns in Steve Bruce’s first home game in charge of the club.

A win for the Baggies could see them go from ninth to seventh pushing Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United out of their way in the process, and would be an opportunity to get more comfortable in the challenge for a playoff place as the side desperately tries to gain Premier League promotion in the last sixteen games of the season.

Four players will be unavailable for the fixture with Kyle Bartley, Matt Phillips, Jake Livermore and Daryl Dike all out for the must win game, and Bruce will be hoping that the team he does have available for the clash will be able to take on the challenge.

With that being said, here is how Football Fancast expects the West Brom manager to line-up his team against Blackburn Rovers this evening…

We expect that Bruce will make just two changes to his side that suffered a defeat Sheffield United last week, especially with injury and illness hindering his opportunity to pick regular starters Kyle Bartley and Matt Phillips.

The first change could be a blessing in disguise, as Livermore picked up his second red card of the season, with the midfielder becoming a bit of a liability for the side over the last few months with his sending offs.

Jayson Molumby will likely replace the suspended midfielder alongside Alex Mowatt, and will surely be hoping to use the opportunity to show the new manager why he should start in the side over Livermore in the future.

The second change would see woeful £7.2m-rated Grady Diangana ruthlessly axed from the side, in an attempt to freshen things up from an attacking perspective, with Callum Robinson coming in to replace the winger.

Diangana has been ineffective in his role for Albion, with just two goals and one assist so far in 26 appearances, which is an incredibly low output for a team that wants to challenge for Premier League promotion this season.

Robinson however, has been one of the most effective players in the side, with five league goals and eight assists in 28 appearances, so would surely be the ideal player due to his more reliable and consistent attacking threat, especially in a game that is a must win for the Baggies.

Bruce will be hoping to make a good first impression on the home fans tonight at the Hawthorns, and securing all three points will not only put Albion in a much more comfortable position ahead of the playoffs, but will please the fans who have had to endure three defeats on the bounce in the last three games.

Comissão eleitoral do Corinthians recomenda veto a Paulo Garcia

A eleição ocorre no próximo sábado, dia 3.
