Grêmio e Cruzeiro voltam a se encontrar pelas semifinais da Copa do Brasil em um dos maiores clássicos brasileiros de mata-matas. Copeiros, os clubes se enfrentaram pela mesma fase do torneio ano passado. Melhor para os gaúchos, que avançaram à final e ficaram com o título da competição.

Ao todo, Grêmio e Cruzeiro estiveram em 14 finais de Copa do Brasil. O Tricolor Gaúcho faturou cinco das oito decisões disputadas. Já a Raposa vem logo atrás, com quatro conquistas em seis decisões.

Apenas na edição de 1993 da Copa do Brasil houve uma final entre os dois na competição. A Raposa se deu bem. No primeiro jogo, no Estádio Olímpico, empate por 0 a 0. Na volta, no Mineirão, o Cruzeiro derrotou o Grêmio por 2 a 1, gols de Roberto Gaúcho e Cleison – Pingo descontou para os gaúchos -, e ficou com o caneco em Belo Horizonte.

Em 2016, pelas semifinais da Copa do Brasil, foi a vez do Tricolor dar o troco. Douglas e Luan garantiram o 2 a 0 do Grêmio sobre o Cruzeiro, em pleno Mineirão. No jogo de volta, na Arena do Grêmio, o Tricolor segurou um 0 a 0 para carimbar a vaga na final da Copa do Brasil.

Embora o Grêmio tenha motivos para comemorar em um passado recente, é do Cruzeiro a vantagem em mata-matas contra os gaúchos. O duelo desta de quarta-feira será o sexto eliminatório entre os dois. O Cruzeiro bateu o Grêmio quatro vezes: Taça Brasil de 1966, Copa do Brasil de 1993 e Copa Libertadores de 1997 e 2009. O Tricolor devolveu ano passado, na semifinal da Copa do Brasil.

قدمت رابطة الدوري الفرنسي لكرة القدم “ليج آ” رسالة تعزية بعد حريق كنيسة أبو سيفين، والتي نتج عنها العديد من الوفيات والجرحى.

وكانت منطقة إمبابة بالجيزة قد شهدت صباح أمس الأحد حريقًا كبيرًا بكنيسة أبو سيفين، وتوفى 41 شخصًا وأصيب أكثر من 10 آخرين نتيجة هذا الحادث.

الحساب الرسمي لرابطة الدوري الفرنسي بمنصة التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر” مُنذ قليل، قدم الواجب العزاء للضحايا، مُتمنيًا الشفاء لكل المصابين.

وكتبت الرابطة: “الدوري الفرنسي يرسل تعازيه لأهالي ضحايا حريق كنيسة المنيرة بمصر، كما نتمنى الشفاء لكل المصابين”.

حادث حريق كنيسة أبو سيفين، حظى باهتمام كبير في وسائل الإعلام المحلية والعالمية، كما قام نادي ليفربول المُنافس في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز بنعي ضحايا الكنيسة.

Manchester United’s problems appear to be mounting by the second at this moment in time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure seems destined for an unsavoury ending.

The Norwegian tactician has come under intense pressure in recent weeks as United have continued to put in underwhelming performances, and Sunday’s humiliating 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool may have served as his final warning.

However, if Solskjaer manages to turn things around at Old Trafford, then there could be a bright future ahead for the 20-time English champions.

Although major doubts remain over the 48-year-old’s ability to guide the 20-time English champions to major silverware, there’s no questioning his eye for a talented youngster and willingness to reward him with an opportunity in the first team.

And 20-year-old full-back Ethan Laird could be the next academy graduate to benefit from the Scandinavian’s bravery if he remains in the United hot seat.

The youngster rose through the ranks at his boyhood club before experiencing senior football for the first time last season, joining MK Dons on a short-term loan spell back in January.

Laird impressed throughout his 24 League One appearances for the Dons, providing four assists and catching the eye of captain Dean Lewington.

Lewington spoke to MK Citizen about Laird, saying: “It’s a different dynamic on the right. It’s a bit more direct with Ethan, using his raw pace. I’m still getting used to playing with him, but it’s working pretty well.

“He just needed a bit of encouragement and the freedom to express himself. I try and do as much of his defensive duties as I can to help him express himself.

“He’s really improved since he first came here, he’s come on leaps and bounds. It’s just a shame we won’t get to keep him,” the experienced campaigner concluded.

And Laird has carried his solid form over into the Championship this season after joining Swansea City for the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign.

“I’d be very excited if he turned up at Elland Rd. Proven track record in player development, would take on Bielsa ball to a pragmatic new level, does well with relatively smaller squads. I like the sound of it. Very exciting potentially.”

The Verdict: Fantastic potential replacement

The hope is that Leeds’ results improve and Bielsa stays on as Leeds manager beyond this season, with the 66-year-old still the right man for the job despite a recent slump. He has proved over three years at Elland Road that he should be trusted.

That being said, if he decided that he had taken his team far enough, then Pochettino could be the perfect man to come in for him, with the 49-year-old shining at Tottenham, most notably taking them to the 2019 Champions League final and consistently qualifying them for the tournament.

He has also hailed Bielsa as a ‘genius’ in the past, taking inspiration from the Leeds gaffer’s management style, so it could be a seamless transition if he is chosen as the veteran’s successor in the Elland Road dugout.

Everton’s season under new manager Rafa Benitez has already been a tale of two halves, and we’re only 11 Premier League games in.

The Toffees began 2021/22 with a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions, with their 3-0 loss to Aston Villa being followed up by a victory over Norwich City and a draw away from home against Manchester United.

However, injuries to several key players have contributed to the Goodison Park outfit picking up just one point from a possible 12 in recent weeks, and Sunday’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur ended a three-game losing streak.

While the tactics and style of play implemented by Benitez can be questioned, the experienced 61-year-old has had one hand tied behind his back due to the personnel currently available.

The likes of Richarlison, Yerry Mina and Abdoulaye Doucure have all been sidelined for significant lengths of time throughout 2021/22, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s enforced absence has arguably hit them the hardest.

In the opening three league games of the campaign, the England international bagged a goal on each outing, heavily contributing to Everton’s fast start.

A quadricep problem has seen Calvert-Lewin consigned to the treatment table ever since, though, meaning backup striker Salomon Rondon has been leading the line more often than not.

The 32-year-old arrived from Chinese outfit Dalian Professional in the summer after a previous spell on English shores and was excited to make his Premier League return.

“Defending the colours of a club with a history as rich as Everton’s fills me with pride,” said Rondon after his unveiling as a new Everton player. 

“I can’t wait to pull on the shirt and be reunited with Rafa Benítez, a coach who has changed the way I understand the game. I’m really grateful for the faith he’s shown in me.”

The Venezuela international, who had a spell on loan at CSKA Moscow last season, had bags of Premier League experience prior to his arrival on Merseyside, scoring 28 goals in 120 appearances for West Bromwich Albion between 2015 and 2018.

Rondon then linked up with Benitez for the first time in his career, bagging 12 goals in 33 games under the Spanish tactician while on loan at Newcastle United from Albion during the 2018/19 season.

But things have not gone to plan for the South American during his time in an Everton shirt.

As per WhoScored, Rondon has had just eight shots during his 432 minutes of top-flight action and via SofaScore, he’s only made three key passes, failed to create a single big chance and won just 32 of his 89 duels (a loss rate of 64%).

He’s also yet to score or assist in his eight Everton appearances as his shocking start to the season continues.

Benitez will, therefore, be desperate for Calvert-Lewin to return to full fitness as soon as possible, providing him with the firepower needed to achieve success, something Rondon appears incapable of doing.
