Cardiff is a capital city and deserves a Test venue.”Atkinson hands over to the new groundsman, Keith Exton, in February and said there is plenty of time to complete all the required work – including a new drainage system – before the Test match.”We have got until July and that should be enough time,” he said. “We have put everything in place and the field will be in great condition. If we can get a lucky break with the weather then things will be fine.”Atkinson’s main piece of advice for Exton is to be ready for a lot of focus to be on his pitches. “Keith comes highly recommended from the ECB He has an excellent reputation. His biggest problem could be the amount of exposure, you have to get used to it and you need to have skin like a rhino.”

That’s according to a claim made by Alan Nixon, with The Sun journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that Notts County are closing in on a move for the 21-year-old goalkeeper, who looks set to join the National League side on a season-long loan deal.

It is undeniable that Patterson is a goalkeeper who boasts plenty of potential, but with Lee Johnson signing Bayern Munich’s Ron-Thorben Hoffmann in the summer transfer window, as well as already having Lee Burge in his ranks, loaning out the 21-year-old would appear to be a smart move by the Black Cats.

Indeed, Patterson impressed over his two League One appearances so far this season, with the youngster keeping one clean sheet, conceding one goal and making four saves.

These returns saw the £600-per-week ‘keeper average a SofaScore match rating of 6.95, ranking the 21-year-old as the Black Cats’ eighth-best performer in the third tier of English football – albeit with a limited sample size of fixtures.

The player who Johnson himself dubbed an “excellent” talent also turned in impressive displays in each of his two appearances in the Carabao Cup, averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.05 in the competition.

As such, it is clear that Patterson is a goalkeeper who has the ability to one day become the Mackems’ first choice in the position. However, with both Hoffmann and Burge ahead of the 21-year-old in the pecking order, a loan move to a club where he will more than likely receive ample game-time this season is certainly the most beneficial decision for his development as a player, and should duly be good news for the future of the club.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim Spurs’ attentions are likely to turn to Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins as he perfectly fits sporting director Fabio Paratici’s long-term plans.

It’s thought that his ability to create space and be a battering ram up top makes him a great fit alongside Heung-min Son and Harry Kane.

However, it will take a substantial offer to even tempt the Midlands outfit into a sale, with CIES Football Observatory currently valuing him at around €40m (£34m).

Prior to his move to Villa Park, the 25-year-old frontman was linked with a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under Jose Mourinho, via The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

He would go on to sign from Brentford in a club-record £28m deal. During his maiden campaign in the big time, Watkins bagged a stunning hat-trick against then defending champions Liverpool and he scored a total of 16 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

This further highlights his fit for Spurs as Kane is often a player that drops deep to allow his deadly partner Son to cut inside and create havoc.

On the above evidence, Watkins is exactly the same, so it could be a seamless transition that helps the South Korean and perhaps even the struggling Englishman improve in front of goal this term.

The Villa talisman is averaging 2.5 shots and 1.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League this campaign, which are only bettered by Son (3 shots), Lucas Moura (2.6 dribbles) and Tanguy Ndombele (2.5 dribbles).

Paratici and Levy must look to secure a move for Watkins in 2022.

He is expected to play for the franchise for three weeks ahead of the first Test of England’s home series against West Indies (which starts on May 6), a prospect he described yesterday as “great fun”.But the prospect will be less fun for Flintoff and England if he ends up exacerbating an injury that troubled him throughout the drawn third Test in Antigua last week, especially with the twin challenges of the ICC World Twenty20 and the Ashes fast approaching next summer.Flintoff does not yet know whether he will be fit to play in the final Test of England’s Caribbean tour, starting on March 6 in Trinidad, but if he does sit it out, the ECB could be forced to invoke injury-related clauses to prevent him playing for Chennai from the start of the tournament on April 10.
