When compared to Wilfred Ndidi, Bissouma does not get anywhere near his opposite number.

According to WhoScored, the Nigerian comes out on top in pretty much every defensive department.

The former Genk man has racked up 3.2 tackles per game this season compared to Bissouma’s 2.7. Meanwhile, the Brighton man cannot topple Ndidi on interceptions either – 2.5 to 1.6.

The 24-year-old also contributes fewer blocks and clearances than the current Leicester City man so it would make no sense in bringing him into the team in a defensive role.

That point is further exacerbated when considering that the Foxes already have the likes of Nampalys Mendy and Hamza Choudhury ready as deputies for Ndidi.

Even if Bissouma is envisaged as a more attacking option than the Nigerian, he would still have to get ahead of Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet and James Maddison in the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.

Of course, with Leicester looking likely to embark on another European campaign next season, they need depth within their squad.

Bissouma would certainly add to their options, with the midfielder being labelled as “incredible” by former Brighton man Dale Stephens.

However, rated at £15.3m, it would surely make sense to implement those funds in a position that they are not already well stocked, especially not with one of the most dominant defensive midfielders in the Premier League in the form of Ndidi.

Manchester United have been linked with an extraordinary move for Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris.

According to L’Equipe, the Red Devils are keen to swoop for the Spurs stopper, with Jose Mourinho reportedly considering replacing the Frenchman with compatriot Mike Maignan.

Whilst Lloris has proven himself to be a solid stopper in the Premier League, he is simply not needed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils.

As it stands, United are well-stocked for goalkeepers. David de Gea and Dean Henderson are both currently vying for the no.1 shirt at Old Trafford, whilst the club also have Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Joel Pereira in reserve.

With as many as five first-team stoppers, there is not a necessity to bring in any more options should all of them remain into next season.

It could be argued that Lloris would intensify that competition further, a statement that would certainly be true considering he has made 289 appearances in the Premier League and claimed 103 clean sheets – not to mention winning a FIFA World Cup with France in 2018.

However, Lloris has developed somewhat of a mistake-ridden reputation. In his Premier League career, the 34-year-old has made 19 errors directly leading to a goal – at a rate of one every 15 games.

For comparison, de Gea has only made 14 in 337 appearances – one approximately every 24 matches in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Henderson is averaging an error every 21 matches, again some way higher than Lloris’ average.

Away from his presence between the sticks, Lloris would likely cost the Red Devils a considerable amount – money that could be spent better elsewhere.

Rated at a modest £8.1m, United would have to stump up his £100k per week wages. For a player that they may not even need, that seems a considerable amount to invest.

Despite any move for Lloris being an extraordinary one, it is one that Ed Woodward should avoid.

A reapresentação do Fluminense nesta segunda-feira, nas Laranjeiras, não teve as melhores notícias para Levir Culpi, que comandou o primeiro treino visando o clássico contra o Botafogo na quarta-feira, na Ilha da Governador. Durante o coletivo, no qual o técnico fez testes no time titular, Wellington sentiu uma lesão na coxa, que não foi informada, e será reavaliado pelos médicos do clube.

O atacante iniciou o treinamento entre os titulares. No início do coletivo, três novidades. Gum, suspenso diante do Figueirense no sábado, retornou ao time no lugar de Renato Chaves. Pierre foi mantido e o volante Douglas apareceu entre os reservas, com Marquinho em seu lugar no meio-campo titular, ao lado de Cícero. O time inicial começou assim: W. Silva, Gum, Henrique e W. Matheus; Pierre, Cícero e Marquinho; Marcos Junior, Wellington e Henrique Dourado.

Wellington deixou o gramado das Laranjeiras após cerca de 20 minutos de coletivo. O atacante deu lugar ao Osvaldo no time principal, que, sem a presença de um meia de criação, teve dificuldades para armar as jogadas.

O atacante Wellington será reavaliado pelo departamento médico do Flu e é uma preocupação para o técnico Levir Culpi, já que vem sendo um dos destaques do Tricolor desde seu retorno da Europa, no mês de junho.

A ausência ficou por conta de Gustavo Scarpa. O meia foi realizar exame no cotovelo direito, machucado durante a partida contra o Figueirense, no sábado, e só apareceu nas Laranjeiras no final da atividade, já após o fim do coletivo. O camisa 40, no entanto, participou da última parte do treino com uma proteção no braço direito, e não deve ser preocupação para o clássico de quarta-feira.

Nesta terça-feira o Fluminense volta a treinar nas Laranjeiras. Levir comanda a atividade às 9h na sede das Laranjeiras, a última antes do Clássico Vovô, que será disputado na Arena do Botafogo, às 16h de quarta-feira, na Arena da Ilha.

Some players at Newcastle United have reportedly been left to rage at Miguel Almiron in a behind-the-scenes claim by Football Insider.

The Paraguay international, who Alan Shearer claimed was ‘magnificent’ in a 3-2 home win over Southampton back in February, has recently made an admission at a local radio station that he would like to play in a team that ‘fights more’, which has reportedly caused a big stir among several players in the Magpies squad.

A source in the northeast has since said that a lot of players at the Tyneside club have been left to feel ‘extremely unhappy’ with the comments that he made, and believe that he is trying to distance himself from some recent bad displays in the hope of potentially engineering a move away in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Almiron’s comments suggest that the squad are not fighting enough to stay in the Premier League, to which there is ‘anger’ among the camp.

Not what Newcastle need right now

This behind-the-scenes claim of tension among the Newcastle players is certainly not what the Toon Army want to or need to hear right now as they look to try and avoid being relegated from the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be among the front-runners for RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer this summer.

According to Sport Bild, there is a “75% chance” that he joins the north London outfit after the current campaign, though Spurs do face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 27-year-old’s contract is set to expire in 2022, so the Bundesliga side do not want to lose him for nothing and as a result, have put a €42m (£36m) valuation for signature.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has previously lauded his fit in the current Spurs set-up, claiming he’s “perfect for Jose Mourinho” whilst as Leipzig skipper, he’d arrive with plenty of leadership attributes.

That’s not to mention his ability to score from midfield too, having notched 23 goals across the past two seasons, as per Transfermarkt – it’s no wonder his manager, Julian Nagelsmann, has dubbed him a “goal threat.”

But with this interest comes a consequence, as Mourinho will not be able to fit so many midfielders into his matchday squad, let alone the starting XI every week.

One player who appears to be most at risk is Harry Winks, who has become a forgotten man in N17, having started only seven league games all term.

A lot has been made about the 25-year-old’s future at Spurs. Ahead of January, Winks revealed his frustration at a lack of game time, he told Sky Sports: “Definitely, my situation at Tottenham is difficult at the moment.”

And since then, there have been reports suggesting that he’ll ‘insist’ on a departure in the summer. That’s according to Sport (via Sport Witness), who believe Winks is enticed by the idea of playing in Spain.

Overall, this could be the best thing for all parties because the Englishman has failed to live up to the lofty expectations once set by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking to the Evening Standard in 2018, Pochettino compared Winks to the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi. He said: “Harry has the profile of the perfect midfield player. His characteristics are perfect. When we talk about midfielders like Xavi and Iniesta, he’s like this type of player.”

The £20m-rated maestro has never really hit the ground running for the Lilywhites anyway. In five straight Premier League seasons, Winks has struggled to surpass an average rating of 6.57, whilst this campaign, no player with seven or more starts has been worse (6.38).

In terms of productivity, he’s offered very little.

Defensively, he ranks amongst Spurs’ worst performers, managing only 0.8 tackles per game despite playing in the engine room. By comparison, this is the same number as Heung-min Son and only 0.1 ahead of Harry Kane, who are both a key source for scoring goals, rather than keeping them out.

Similarly, in attack, Winks isn’t doing anything of note in the final third, managing only 0.3 key passes, 0.3 shots and 0.1 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Sabitzer would certainly be an upgrade in both senses too.

On top of his impressive goalscoring record, he’s managed to chip in at the back with 1.4 interceptions and 1.1 tackles, proving to be a tough force in midfield to win the ball back, whilst the Austria international is also averaging two shots and one key pass per game, as per WhoScored.

Daniel Levy could end Wink’s north London nightmare with a swoop for Sabitzer, and that’s surely in Spurs’ best interests.
