Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has extortionately claimed that Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara would be more at home with the Red Devils.
The 46-year-old, who patrolled the centre of the park at Old Trafford for the best part of two decades, has claimed that the Spaniard would be ‘more suited to a Manchester United team’.
The reasoning that Scholes gives for this is that the former Bayern Munich midfielder does not have the ‘energy’ to play in a midfield three and instead needs a more defensive presence besides him.
He may well be correct in the sense that Thiago needs more of a destroyer next to him in order to flourish from an attacking standpoint. Indeed, he has not registered a goal or an assist in his time at Anfield. However, that defensive influence is already at Anfield in the form of Fabinho.
The Brazilian, signed from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco back in 2018, can be extremely effective at the base of a midfield diamond – an aspect that his personal defensive statistics can attest to.
In his Premier League appearances this season thus far, Fabinho has contributed 6.3 defensive contributions per match according to WhoScored. This includes just over two tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 2.4 clearances every 9 minutes.
Considering that he has been deployed at centre-back in 14 out of his 18 league appearances this season, it could be expected that those numbers would go up should he return to a more natural midfield position.
This then gives Thiago the perfect foil in the centre of the park to venture forwards and be creative.
Whilst it could be argued that the £43.2m-rated man could get the same, if not better, at Old Trafford, none of Scott McTominay, Fred or Paul Pogba get anywhere near Fabinho’s defensive contributions to their team.
It could be suggested then that Thiago would have to assume even more defensive responsibility at Old Trafford given those deficiencies, meaning that Scholes’ comments on the midfielder are not quite as refined or researched as they should be.

موقع “كومبيليت سبورتس” النيجيري، أكد أن النسور الخضراء، سيواجهون القطن الكاميروني في جاروا، بمباراة ودية قبل أمم إفريقيا 2021 والتي ستقام في الكاميرون.

Southampton could lose midfielder Mario Lemina on a permanent basis this summer.
Lemina is currently on loan from Southampton at Fulham and the midfielder had spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray. It now seems as though Saints could be set to lose the former Juventus man permanently in the summer.
Fulham have growing belief about Lemina signature
The Sun have recently reported about Fulham’s stance on summer transfers and they say that the Craven Cottage-based side now have a growing belief that they can keep the players who are currently only there on loan, Lemina included.
Lemina is one of four loanees that the relegation battlers have a permanent option on, and there’s an increasing likelihood of that route being taken.
The report claims the London outfit expect to keep those players if they avoid relegation, which appears increasingly likely given their changing fortunes compared to the likes of Newcastle and Brighton.
The 27-year-old Gabonese midfielder has made 20 appearances in the top flight this season for Fulham and he recently scored for them against Liverpool in a 1-0 win.
Lemina could still be a first-team option for Saints
As things stand, Southampton have three out-and-out options in central midfield, but Will Smallbone finds himself on the sidelines because of an injury. Ibrahima Diallo is also injured and he can also play in central midfield (as per Transfermarkt).
Southampton may need extra depth in midfield and Lemina can add that, if he does return to the club.
We feel it could be a mistake to let him leave for good, given that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have been so harshly struck by injuries this term.

Many fans of Crystal Palace have been reacting to a post on Twitter in which Matt Woosnam shared an article of his regarding the future of the Eagles manager Roy Hodgson.
In Woosnam’s article for The Athletic, the journalist claims that the south London side’s recent 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion has “done little to assuage the concerns of critics” of Hodgson, who has a matter of months remaining on his contract as the Palace boss.
Woosnam also claims that there “appears to be no sign of certainty” as to whether or not the Eagles will look to offer the 73-year-old a contract extension and also questioned, after sharing his article on Twitter, whether the former England manager would accept a new deal “knowing he was never first choice,” as well as whether Hodgson’s much-maligned style of football will be “tolerated” when fans return to Selhurst Park.
In reaction to the journalist’s tweet, many fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with plenty appearing to be firmly of the belief that Hodgson should not remain in charge of Palace beyond the end of the current season.

تحدث شريف إكرامي حارس مرمى الأهلي السابق وبيراميدز الحالي عن مدى تأثره بتراجع دعم الجماهير بعد الرحيل عن المارد الأحمر، وموقفه من أول مشاركة أمام الأخير، كما أعرب عن تأييده مع ما قاله لاعب سموحة ومنتخب مصر مروان حمدي ردًا على الانتقاد الذي تعرض له.
وقال إكرامي في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “أون تايم سبورتس 1″ ، عبر برنامج”جمهور التالتة”: “بالتأكيد دعم الجماهير أفضل خاصة في مصر، لكني لم أتأثر كرويًا، عندما أنزل الملعب لا أفكر في أي شئ”.
وأضاف: “واجهت الأهلي الموسم الماضي لأول مرة، كان شعوري غريبًا قبل اللقاء لأنني سأواجه الفريق الذي نشأت فيه، ولكن بمجرد أن بدأت المباراة نسيت كل ذلك، لكن مباراة الدور الثاني عندما كنت على الدكة كنت أتعجب من الموقف”.

واستطرد: “ذهبت للنادي الأهلي مرة واحدة بعد رحيلي لكي أشاهد نجلي الذي يلعب في الأهلي، ولكني أخذته من النادي لكي أؤسسه في هذا السن لأنه لم يكن يلعب”.
وتابع: “لا أحد يفرح عندما يرى تعليقات سب أو سخرية على منصات التواصل الاجتماعي، ولكن على الجانب الآخر جماهير الأهلي التي تفعل ذلك كانت في وقت من الأوقات تمدحني وتطلق علي الألقاب ولكن الآن هم غاضبين مني فطبيعي أن أتقبل الآراء الجديدة كما تقبلت السابقة، لا بد أن أتحملهم وهم على رأسي وأحترمهم وإذا التقيت بهم في الشارع سأحتضنهم وأتصور معهم، لأنه ليس من العدل أن أتقبل إشادات الجماهير في وقت وأغضب منهم عندما يغضبون مني في وقت آخر”.
وواصل: “لكي تظل واقفًا على قدميك لا بد أن تتقبل الوجه القبيح للكرة، ولكننا في مصر لا يوجد نقد، بل يوجد سخرية وسباب، أو تشجيع ونفاق، أتمنى أن يتغير ذلك عندما يفعل كل شخص ما هو مطلوب منه وهو توعية الناس”.
وأتم: “ما فعله مروان حمدي ورده على النقد أثناء مشاركته في كأس العرب هذا لسان حال لاعبين كثر، ولكني كنت مختلفًا معه فقط في الطريقة والتوقيت للرد ولكني متفهم وجهة نظره”.
وتحدث عن أصعب المراحل التي مرت عليه، قائلًا: “في هولندا، كان المدرب عنصريًا، لأنه كان يرى إنني جئت من دوري هواة، وعمري صغير، وكان معه حق إلى حد ما، رغم إنه كان لا يعلم من أين أتيت لو كان يعرف الأهلي لكان خجل من نفسه، لأن الضغط في الأهلي أكبر من فينورد وجماهيرية الأهلي أكبر 10 مرات من فينورد”.

Pela primeira vez desde o dia 7 de maio, o técnico Dorival Júnior teve todos os seus titulares à disposição para treinar no CT Rei Pelé, nesta terça-feira, véspera do jogo contra o Vasco, que será na Vila Belmiro, às 19h30, pela ida das oitavas de final da Copa do Brasil.
Desde então, Ricardo Oliveira havia se machucado e Lucas Lima, Gabigol, Zeca e Thiago Maia foram à Seleção Brasileira. Desta forma, a “escalação ideal” do Santos voltará a ser utilizada na quarta.
Com tudo que tem de melhor, Dorival fechou o treino, como sempre faz antes dos jogos. No entanto, um torcedor teve o privilégio de ver o que queria e até de dar palpite.

Até o momento em que foi possível acompanhar a atividade, só trabalhos físicos foram feitos no gramado. Na distribuição dos coletes, Dorival não deu pistas do time titular, mas a tendência é que o Peixe vá a campo com: Vanderlei; Victor Ferraz, Luiz Felipe, Gustavo Henrique e Zeca; Renato, Thiago Maia e Lucas Lima; Vitor Bueno, Gabigol e Ricardo Oliveira.
Após o treinamento, os relacionados para encarar o Vasco ficam concentrados no hotel Recanto dos Alvinegros, anexo ao CT Rei Pelé.
