Before a ball had even been kicked in Southampton’s clash with Everton on Saturday, we outlined just how important the next six games were for Ralph Hasenhuttl and the Saints.

Having already faced Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, a run of fixtures including match-ups against the likes of Norwich, Newcastle, West Ham, Watford and Aston Villa will follow the 2-1 loss to the Toffees.

In the aforementioned article, we detailed how Hasenhuttl has a decision to make in regards to his outlook over the next few weeks.

Will the Austrian be conservative in his approach and opt for a heavily defensive five-man backline or three-man defence with wing-backs? Or, would he be more adventurous with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-2-2 system?

The former RB Leipzig boss has used all of the aforementioned systems at least once this season, and when the teamsheet came in at 14:00 on Saturday, his true mindset was revealed.

Hasenhuttl decided to go with a 3-4-3 formation, with Cedric and Stuart Armstrong at wing-back either side of Jannik Vestergaard, Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek.

Against an Everton side who had conceded 17 goals in 11 games prior to kick-off and were also just three points above the Saints, Hasenhuttl had a real chance to adopt an attacking mentality in his side and take the game to Marco Silva’s men, while also setting the tempo ahead of a potentially season-defining run of fixtures.

It wouldn’t be harsh to say that the exact opposite mentality had been instilled against a side who were there for the taking – the Merseysiders had 24 shots to Southampton’s four, which is seriously embarrassing for Hasenhuttl.

The St Mary’s faithful can only hope that the Austrian begins to adopt an ‘attack first, defend second’ policy as soon as possible, with time running out to turn this wretched campaign around.

As the old cliche goes: attack is the best form of defence.

Given the fact that Southampton’s defence is, incidentally, abysmal with a league-high 29 goals conceded, Hasenhuttl needs to be more adventurous.

In one of the first real chances for him to do so, however, the former RB Leipzig boss’ mindset was evident in his team selection.

So it looks like Tahith Chong could be one Manchester United youngster to slip through the net. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a huge declaration at the end of last season that he would be giving opportunities to the club’s plethora of young players, saying he could envisage them “getting their chances next year”.

And whilst the likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams amongst others have been given first-team minutes here and there – they have made 13 and seven senior appearances respectively – Chong hasn’t been afforded the same amount of faith.

The Dutchman has featured just four times for Solskjaer’s side, and his agent previously claimed they are keeping a close eye on his situation to see what would be best for his development.

Now, Italian publication Calcio Mercato claim Serie A giants Juventus are seriously moving for the attacker, and that Chong has decided not to renew his contract at Old Trafford.

After hearing the transfer update on the 19-year-old, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters revealed that they would be disappointed if he left, and insisted that given the time and opportunity, he could eventually turn into a quality player.

وكان سيد عبد الحفيظ قد قال في تصريحات عقب مباراة الأهلي وغزل المحلة إنه سيحذف رقم جهاد جريشة من هاتفه، لأنه في كل مرة يخطئ بقرارات تحكيمية يتصل به ليعتذر.

As quoted by the club’s official website, Nicky Butt has delivered his verdict on Manchester United starlet James Garner.

What did he say?

The 18-year-old has made just the three appearances for the senior side this season, with only eight minutes of Premier League football to his name. He has however been in fine form at Premier League 2 level with the U23s, scoring five goals in five games.

Despite seeing him predominantly feature on the fringes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad, Butt hailed the teenager’s mentality, and insisted that being patient now will reward him handsomely in the future.

He said: “Jimmy Garner is a good player. He’s very mature for his age, so he can handle all the hype and all that comes with playing in the first team. He’s scored some good goals in the Under-23s and the EFL Trophy, so he’s developing that bit.

“He’s just got to be patient because he’s a very good player who will hopefully have a long career at Manchester United. There’s no rush with him. He’s still growing, still got to build himself up in the gym and naturally grow.”

Patience

It’s the one thing all young players desperately need. Being thrown in at the deep end can be a dangerous approach for those who are trying to break through into the first-team, and it’s very much a toss-up between who sinks and who swims.

In Garner, United have a central midfielder who has shown he has an eye for goal this season in his time with the academy sides. And with the future of Paul Pogba still seemingly uncertain, the Red Devils starlet will surely be getting ample first-team opportunities in the near future. Butt’s profile of the teenager makes for good reading for the club, with mentality often being the difference in making it to the very top of the game.

That maturity of being able to handle all the pressure and the limelight that comes with playing for one of the biggest sides in the world will hold Garner in great stead. And that is exactly why Butt’s verdict on him should be encouraging for those of a United persuasion.

وواصل بوتشيتينو: “على مدار 180 دقيقة، لمدة 40 أو 45 دقيقة لعبنا بعشرة رجال (إشارة لطرد دي ماريا في الإياب وإدريسا جاي في الذهاب) هذه ميزة هائلة”.

وأكمل: “هذه هي كرة القدم، لكننا كنا ننافس وكنا دائمًا في المباراة، لم يكن الفوز من نصيبنا الليلة أو الليلة السابقة عندما لعبنا في باريس”.

وعن غياب مبابي، أتم: “هذا لا يمكن أن يكون عذرًا، نحن فريق، بالطبع من سوء الحظ أنه لم يكن مستعدًا لمساعدة الفريق، لكن هذا ليس عذرًا، لا يمكننا استخدام هذا العذر لأن أداء الفريق كان جيدًا”.

If Newcastle are to get anything from the clash against Aston Villa, Steve Bruce will have to ensure once again that his team are tough to break down.

If they provide defensive solidity while providing a threat on the counter-attack, they may be able to replicate recent wins against West Ham and Bournemouth.

On both of those occasions they managed to negate the threat of key players such as Felipe Anderson, Ryan Fraser and Joshua King, and much of that was because of the performance of Isaac Hayden.

It is little surprise that his return from suspension has coincided with an upturn in form, as no other Newcastle midfielder is able to fulfil the role he performs – his duties are key to Bruce’s system.

He has gone from being a bit-part player under Rafa Benitez – making 21 league starts last season – to acting as the chief protector of the backline.

As per WhoScored, his 2.9 tackles and 1.8 interceptions mean he cuts out danger with great efficiency, and against a midfield consisting of Jack Grealish and John McGinn that will be pivotal.

Villa possess a threat in a variety of areas but there is no doubting that Grealish is the main man, with the captain backing up his talismanic-like status with four goals and three assists this term.

Added to that, Grealish often provides a constant attacking threat in the opposition half, and has 2.5 key passes and 1.9 successful dribbles per game, as per WhoScored.

He likes to get in between the midfield and defence, picking up the ball to run towards goal before finding a teammate or offloading a pass, and Bruce must be prepared for that.

One solution is to limit the space between defence and midfield by playing them close to each other, but given that is the domain in which Hayden operates, a lot of expectation is on his shoulders.

This will be another difficult test for the former Arsenal man, but as long as he keeps his composure and stays on his feet – which he didn’t against Leicester – then he should be able to keep a close an eye on the Villa man and reduce his influence.

If he achieves that Newcastle will keep a key threat quiet, and as long as the front-three can reproduce their recent form, particularly Allan Saint-Maximin, then the Magpies may keep their current run going.

كوليبالي صاحب الـ”29″ عامًا، قيمته السوقية تُقدر بـ50 مليون يورو، وعقده ينتهي بعد عامين، في 30 يونيو 2023.

After losing their previous three Premier League matches, beating Newcastle United 2-0 was an important result for Aston Villa.

A lot of the thanks for achieving the result will be going towards Conor Hourihane after he got a goal and assist from a pair of smart free-kicks.

Regarding the set-piece deliveries, Hourihane even admitted that those situations are his “time to shine” when interviewed after the game.

These statistics and the Republic of Ireland international’s general performance were enough to leave many fans impressed.

One has nicknamed him “the postman” because of how reliable his deliveries are, while there was also a claim that the 28-year-old was Man of the Match, which has been backed up by WhoScored.

There was plenty of praise for him in the replies to the club’s tweet.

However, there were also signs of frustration, with some fans indicating that the 28-year-old is underappreciated for the contribution he makes.

The midfielder has only made five Premier League starts and three substitute appearances this term, not starting any of the three-game losing streak and only making it onto the pitch once.

This performance is seen as an indication that he should be getting much more regular game time than he has seen so far, with one fan claiming he “has to start at the weekend”.
