To gather an understanding of just where Phillips played, we need to take a look at his heat map as provided by stats expert LUFC Data.

As can be seen, the midfielder offered an effective screening in front of the back four as he usually does, but he also did a lot of his work higher up the pitch, demonstrating his ability to take on a new role.

Although playing as high up as an attacking midfielder behind the striker seems far-fetched, there was certainly evidence of Phillips’ qualities as a box-to-box man.

He remained tight and compact in the middle of the pitch but instead of just sitting, he got forward at regular intervals, making a career-high 128 passes.

That was perhaps indicative of the 62% of possession Marcelo Bielsa’s side had but it should tell the Argentine a lot about Phillips.

In 2018/19, he was trusted to play in defence on occasion but this proves there is an extra layer to his game and that he can get forward.

Playing as a number six, he completed 99 passes as Leeds sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

This offers the potential for Bielsa to play him in a new position when Leeds come up against defensive opposition, allowing him a free role to roam further up the field.

Against Forest last weekend, his side played 13 key passes but only scored once.

Perhaps pushing someone like Phillips on as they did in midweek would have beneficial.

تعرض منزل الإيطالي كارلو أنشيلوتي، المدير الفني لفريق إيفرتون، للسرقة من قبل لصوص في مدينة ليفربول الإنجليزية.

ترك كارلو أنشيلوتي ابنة زوجته كلوي وحدها في المنزل، بوجود عامل يُدعى ستيبداوتر فقط.

صحيفة “ديلي ميل” الإنجليزية، أكدت أنه تم استدعاء الشرطة إلى المنزل في بلونديلانس بمقاطعة ميرسيسايد في مدينة ليفربول، الساعة 6.35 يوم الجمعة الماضية، بعد أن اقتحم رجلان المنزل.

لم يكن يتواجد صاحب الـ61 عامًا في منزله خلال ذلك الوقت، لكن ابنة زوجته أزعجت اللصوص، الذين هربوا وقاموا بالفرار بعد أن اكتشفتهم كلوي.

ووصفت كلوي اللصوص بأنهم يرتدون ملابس سوداء مقاومة للماء، وأقنعة سوداء أيضًا، لم تتعرف على أشكالهم.

صحيفة “ذا صن” الإنجليزية، أشارت إلى أن أنشيلوتي مدرب إيفرتون تعرض لسرقة 2 مليون جنيه إسترليني، وهذا ما اكتشفه بعد العودة إلى المنزل.

وطلب أنشيلوتي وجود حُراس على منزله، وتشديد الحراسة أكثر، خاصة وأنه لا يتواجد بشكل دائم في المنزل.

لم تكن هذه السرقة الأولى للاعبين في مدينة ميرسيسايد بـ ليفربول، لقد تعرض جيرارد من قبل للسرقة، وتم تهديد زوجته أليكس كوران بخطف أطفالها عندما واجهت اللصوص.

Central midfield certainly wasn’t an area of worry for Everton this summer following the transfer business they conducted.

The signings of Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin added to a position which already included the likes of Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin, and looked to be one of their strongest in terms of depth.

However, that has fallen apart in recent weeks leaving them short ahead of hosting Watford at Goodison Park on Saturday.

With Delph unavailable for the opening day trip to Crystal Palace after picking up a groin injury during pre-season, and with Gbamin not yet deemed match fit, Marco Silva decided to use a double pivot of Gomes and Schneiderlin against the Eagles.

However, the Portuguese manager ended the game not being able to select either for their following Premier League fixture against the Hornets, with the former suffering an ankle injury that forced him off just before half-time, and the latter being sent off for two bookable offences.

While there has been no official confirmation of Gomes’ injury and how long he will be out for, it seems almost certain that he will miss out at Goodison following an ankle scan this week, and Schneiderlin is suspended.

Delph has returned to training this week but it remains to be seen whether he will be 100% ready to start or risked against Javi Gracia’s men.

That leaves Silva with a choice of using Gbamin – who looked visibly rusty when he came on in south London – and Davies in a pivot, although he could choose to switch formations and potentially use Alex Iwobi or Gylfi Sigurdsson in a slightly deeper role, too.

Davies more important than Gbamin

It may well be expected that the summer signing from Mainz is the man to step up and replace Gomes in his absence, but they just aren’t a similar type of player.

As the Liverpool Echo pointed out this week, the Portugal international may well be bigger and heavier than the Ivorian, but he is weaker when it comes to defensive duels.

At the same time, he is far more effective on the ball than the 23-year-old, with his passing accuracy sitting at 86.7% compared to Gbamin’s 77.4% against Palace.

If anyone thinks that he can be a like-for-like replacement for Gomes, who has drawn praise from Kevin Kilbane previously for how he dictated the play, they are likely going to be disappointed.

That brings us on to Davies, who is still yet to really make his mark for the Toffees despite making 90 appearances in all competitions for them, as per Transfermarkt.

He was only on the pitch for 11 minutes last weekend, but he had a passing accuracy of 85.7% to show his capabilities on the ball.

He does have previous of threading the sort of through-balls that Bernard and Richarlison will be crying out for – as he did for Kevin Mirallas against Manchester City back in 2017 – but it simply doesn’t happen enough.

The 21-year-old may not be the guaranteed answer to Silva’s issue this weekend, but it is about time he stood up and took his opportunity to stamp his authority on a game and dictate a lot of play going forward like Gomes often does, with Gbamin staying deep.

Everton will be hoping he takes that chance if he gets the nod.

As reported on the club’s official website, West Ham have been handed a triple injury boost ahead of their game against Watford with the return of Felipe Anderson, Sebastien Haller and Mark Noble back available for selection.

What was wrong with them?

Haller – a £45m signing from Eintracht Frankfurt – and Anderson picked up small knocks in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City in the opening game, missing the trip to Brighton as a result.

The Hammers drew that game against the Seagulls 1-1, and they were also without Noble who is yet to feature for the club this term due to an injury which he picked up in pre-season.

In their absence, Manuel Pellegrini selected Pablo Fornals for his first Premier League start and also handed Javier Hernandez a start in Haller’s absence – the Mexican scored the Irons’ only goal.

Who could be affected by their returns?

As aforesaid, Fornals was handed the opportunity to impress in Anderson’s absence, but the £24m summer signing failed to really light up the Amex Stadium despite a bright start.

Football London gave the Spaniard a rating of six, stating that he looked eager and got stuck in straight away, although he faded as the game went on.

His WhoScored statistics also don’t cover the 23-year-old in too much glory.

As an attacking midfielder, you would want to see Fornals test the keeper and thread some incisive passes through to the forwards.

Disappointingly, he played zero key passes and also had zero shots on target, on an afternoon where he failed to really have an influence on proceedings.

Given Anderson’s status at the club as a key first-team player – his 10 goals and five assists last term prove this – you would expect Pellegrini to bring back such an effective performer as soon as he possibly can.

If this is the case, then Fornals may be the unlucky man to miss out having been so ineffective against Brighton.

Before Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash with Newport County, Carlos Sanchez had played just nine minutes of football for West Ham United this season.

Indeed, the 33-year-old featured for just seven minutes at Brighton & Hove Albion and just two minutes away to Watford last time out.

The 6 ft midfielder played the full 90 minutes at Newport on Tuesday, though, which proved to be just his 11th appearance for the Hammers in all competitions.

Having seemingly now fully recovered from the knee operation that he underwent in the latter stages of 2018, Sanchez will be looking to kick on this season.

But whilst there were a number of West Ham fans who were impressed with his performance on Tuesday night, others were left really disappointed.

According to WhoScored, Sanchez made two tackles and had a pass success rate of 90% from his 90 minutes on the field.

Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren has stated to Croatia media outlet Sportske Nowotski, as translated by Sky Sports, that he is committed to fighting for his place in the team having admitted he did think about leaving this summer, and it is exactly what fans of the Merseyside outfit want to hear.

The Croatian international was linked with a move to Roma, having given his best for the Reds since joining in 2015.

Despite the interest, and the fact he has fallen down the pecking order with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez starting games alongside Virgil van Dijk this season, he doesn’t want to accept a place on the bench.

That attitude has earned him praise from some fans, with one also pleased that the defender staying at Anfield means his strong friendship with Mo Salah will continue.

The 30-year-old endured a frustrating campaign last time out, suffering from injuries which limited him to 18 appearances, but is happy to still a Red after the club stood by him through that period and over the summer.
