وذكرت شبكة “أوبتا” العالمية للأرقام والإحصائيات، أنّه بالانتصار اليوم، وصل الريدز للمباراة رقم 64 دون هزيمة على أرضه في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وأشارت الشبكة إلى أنّ تلك أطول سلسلة لا هزيمة في تاريخ النادي، (رقم قياسي جديد)، إذ فاز الريدز في 53 مُباراة وتعادل في 11 لقاء.

وأوضحت الشبكة، أنّ يورجن كلوب المدير الفني للريدز، بعد الوصول لـ64 مباراة دون هزيمة، حطم بذلك، الرقم القياسي الذي سجّله الفريق، تحت قيادة أسطورة النادي بوب بيزلي، بين موسمي 1978 – 1981.

According to Belgian news outlet Het Belang van Limburg (via Sport Witness), linked-away Crystal Palace flop Christian Benteke is reluctant to leave England this summer – if the 6 ft 3 striker wasn’t difficult enough to budge already, this may have thrown a major spanner in the works for the Eagles’ summer plans.

The big Belgian is surely deemed surplus to requirements in SE25 but Palace will undoubtedly be keen to recoup some of the £27m they paid for him in 2016 if they can so they absolutely have to sell him before the end of January, otherwise he will leave on a free next summer.

Benteke’s stubbornness therefore could become a huge problem for Palace as they look to make additions to the squad in the coming months.

What’s the word?

Well, The Times reported this week that Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng Taishan have offered £15m for the 28-year-old’s services, although Het Belang van Limburg understand that ‘the player himself would prefer to stay in England’.

According to The Times, the 34-cap international would earn £150,000-a-week should he trade Selhurst Park for the Far East – an improvement on his current £130-000-a-week earnings in SE25.

With stadium development plans ongoing, Palace are surely reluctant to spend big on any new signings while the likes of Benteke are burning unjustifiable holes in their wage budget, although if he doesn’t want to cross the channel in search of a new club, then the Eagles could struggle to find a suitor.

Can’t get rid of him that easily

The number 17 has netted just four times since the start of the 2017/18 campaign and has been plagued with a recurring knee injury – having seen his goalscoring exploits, or lack thereof, in the past couple of seasons, it’s unlikely that any other Premier League clubs will be willing to take the highly-paid flop off Palace’s hands any time soon, particularly if he could be available on a free next summer.

With Michy Batshuayi set to return to Chelsea at the end of the month, Palace may have been hoping that their lightened payroll could have helped them to adjust to the number 23’s demands if they were to make a permanent move, although Benteke’s stubbornness could deal a damaging blow to their chances of bringing his compatriot back to Selhurst Park this summer.

وتحدث فيرمينو عن المنافس في هجوم ليفربول بتصريحات نقلتها صحيفة “ميرور” البريطانية، وقال: “الفريق يمتلك لاعبين رائعين، لذا فالتواجد بالتشكيل الأساسي ليس بالأمر السهل وأصبحت معتادًا على ذلك بالفعل”.

وعن المنافسة مع جوتا: “دييجو لاعب رائع وممتاز وزميل في الفريق، نعمل جميعًا على مدار الأسبوع بجدية، والمدرب هو من يقرر في النهاية من يشارك ومن يبقى على مقاعد البدلاء، لست في معركة شخصية معه”.

وأضاف: “خط هجوم ليفربول مذهل، يمكنني القول إنه يمكن مقارنته بأي خط هجوم في العالم، في أي من البطولات الكبرى، أرى أننا في الموسم الحالي أصبحنا أقوى من السابق وهذا ما تظهر الأرقام”.

وتابع: “فلسفتي دائمًا تعتمد على تنفيذ تعليمات المدرب بصفة مستمرة سواء في التدريبات او المباريات”.

وعن مواجهة ليستر سيتي مساء اليوم ومدربه السابق، بريندان رودجرز، قال: “مدرب جيد، لم أتدرب تحت قيادته لفترة طويلة لكنه كان داعمًا لانتقالي إلى ليفربول”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “ليستر فريق جيد للغاية ولست متفاجئًا أنهم ينافسون على قمة الترتيب، لأنني أراهم قادرين على منافسة الفرق الأخرى على اللقب ولكن هذا الأمر ينطبق علينا أيضًا في ليفربول”.

According to The Scottish Sun, Aston Villa are plotting a move for Liverpool’s Ryan Kent, who has enjoyed a productive season on loan at Rangers.

What’s the word?

Kent had a wonderful campaign in the SPFL, winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award for his efforts.

Joining Steven Gerrard at Ibrox for the duration of the 2018/19 term, the wide man made impressive strides after being shipped away for a year by Jurgen Klopp.

The 22-year-old has previously had loan spells with Coventry, Barnsley, Freiburg and Bristol City. However, he could now finally be about to make a permanent switch, per The Scottish Sun.

They suggest that Aston Villa are planning a £10m swoop for Kent. According to the report they have already told the Anfield club that they want him next season.

Major problem solved

One of the few remaining problems still embedded within Dean Smith’s Villa team comes in a wide area.

On the flanks, they simply haven’t been good enough. The likes of Anwar El Ghazi, Albert Adomah and Andre Green have been hugely inconsistent this season and as a result, the addition of Kent would go a long way to solving that.

In total this season, those three options have nine assists between them. The Liverpool man, on the other hand, has ten by himself in all competitions.

That gives you a strong indication of how good he’s been this term and just what he can bring to Villa Park. Kent has a teasing final ball and his technical ability is one of his strong points.

The winger has the capability to feature on either side, although has predominantly played from the left. However, Express and Star understand there is an option to buy in El Ghazi’s loan contract, which means any deal for Kent may see him play on the right.

Given that’s where Adomah and Green have been largely underwhelming, the 5 ft 8 man would go a long way to solving the inconsistency issues they’ve both had.

At £10m, it would be a strong piece of business from the Midlands club.

With Sheffield United’s long-awaited return to the Premier League now just over two months away, Chris Wilder will be gearing up for what will be one of the most defining transfer windows in modern history for his club.

If the 51-year-old can absolutely nail his recruitment this summer, there is no reason why the Blades cannot thrive in the top flight next season and repeat the kind of success that Wolverhampton Wanderers were able to achieve after they were promoted last year.

Although United already have a strong squad of players at their disposal, Wilder simply has to consider going all-out to bring in one of the Championship’s hottest prospects.

According to the Star, the Blades are reportedly targeting a move for Brentford forward Neal Maupay having been impressed by his performances in the second tier last season.

An outstanding finisher, the £9m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) fired in a stunning total of 28 goals in all competitions for the Bees whilst also providing nine assists for his team-mates and is seemingly tailor-made for the Premier League.

Despite having no previous experience of playing in the top-flight, Maupay’s killer instincts could see him thrive at a higher level and so it would be well worth the Blades taking a risk on him this summer.

Although Billy Sharp’s goal-scoring escapades being one of the key reasons for why United were able to secure a second place finish in the Championship earlier this month, it could be argued that by securing the services of Maupay, he may have to step aside.

Whereas there is no doubting the 33-year-old’s ability to find the back of the net, when you consider that Maupay is 11 years younger than him and has the potential to grow as a player over the coming years, it should be a no-brainer for Wilder if the Frenchman is made available for transfer by Brentford.

Chris Sutton has warned Neil Lennon against signing David Turnbull and adding a passenger to his title-seeking squad at Celtic, writing in his Daily Record column.

What’s the story?

The Hoops are said to be in discussions with Motherwell about signing the 19-year-old this summer after an incredible breakthrough season in the Scottish Premiership.

Sutton though isn’t convinced he can displace any of the midfielders currently at Celtic Park and reckons Lennon can’t afford to have anyone in the squad not pulling their weight in terms of appearances.

Writing for The Daily Record this weekend, the former Celtic striker said:

“The biggest issue for me surrounding Turnbull is would he get a game for Celtic? Will Turnbull take Celtic to the next level?

“That’s the big conundrum.

“If you look at the Celtic midfield area then you have to ask where would a player like Turnbull fits in at the minute. There may well be places up for grabs in Neil Lennon’s new look Celtic team. Who would Turnbull get a game in front of right now?

“Unless players make way then there is no room to accommodate Turnbull at Celtic. The teenager needs to play regular first team football and capitalise on the magnificent season that he has just had.

“I am not being disrespectful to Turnbull or Motherwell but Celtic cannot afford to carry somebody this season and give them time to bed in.

“This is the nine-in-a-row campaign and the Champions League which is going to be crucial will soon be upon them again.

“Players that are brought to the club need to hit the ground running due to the enormity of what is at stake both domestically and in Europe.”

Turnbull’s credentials

With 15 goals and six assists from midfield last season, Turnbull was one of the stand-out talents in the Scottish Premiership and given he is still just a teenager, it’s a contribution that many think points to enormous potential.

Sutton is right to suggest the midfield positions are Celtic are currently well stocked but with Tom Rogic losing form in 2019, adding another attacking option to the central area doesn’t sound like the worst idea in the world.

Scott Brown is ageing too and could play a reduced role next season.

Having Turnbull in the mix, especially against teams Celtic are expected to dominate possession against, could give the team that extra spark when breaking down the opposition.

The Motherwell man ticks plenty of boxes for the Hoops this summer and although he may not play 40+ games at the club next term, he should get enough action to show he is a player that can be important for Celtic in the future.

Sutton’s warnings are well intended, but he may just be surprised about what the young Scottish talent can provide the Premiership champions.

The loan signing of Anwar El Ghazi last term was a superb piece of business from Aston Villa. To now sign him again, but on a permanent transfer, is an even greater deal.

Last season the Dutchman was one of the stars for Villa as he scored in the play-off final and played a vital hand in their promotion.

Once of Ajax, a side he scored 11 goals for in the Eredivisie in 2015/16, El Ghazi has rather dropped off the pace since.

Blessed with fantastic technical ability, he even scored in the Nou Camp against Barcelona in the Champions League.

But almost five years on from that impressive night in Catalonia, he has significant improvements to make.

On the chalkboard

In short, El Ghazi still has a long way to go if he’s to avoid becoming a flop in the Premier League.

The Dutchman has always had a tremendous amount of potential but after his development was set back, a loan spell with the Midlands club is what seems to have revitalised his career.

But despite that newfound confidence, it doesn’t stop him from being an incredibly frustrating player.

Throughout 2018/19 he was an enigmatic figure for large parts of the campaign, lacking any sign of consistency.

His form towards the latter stages improved but in regards to his end product, a big improvement will be needed.

Last term he managed six goals and six assists which is a handy return. However, just 1.3 key passes and 1.1 crosses per game suggests he still has work to do.

El Ghazi is capable of being a star in the Premier League but he could find himself ending up like Anthony Knockaert and Helder Costa unless he improves his creativity.

They’re two prime examples of similar players to have flourished in the Championship but failed at a higher level.

A tricky winger, El Ghazi also has some way to go in terms of controlling possession. Last season he averaged 2.3 unsuccessful touches per outing.

That’s an indication of his willingness to get at a man but if he’s not actually in control, he’s not going to create opportunities.

Therefore, if he can combine these two key areas together he can be a handful for Premier League defences.

His 20 goals across two league campaigns in the Netherlands more than proves he has what it takes.
