The Fixture In Focus Podcast returns this week, putting Newcastle and Liverpool’s Premier League clash under the microscope.

The Magpies’ season may be over after securing Premier League survival for another year but Liverpool need a win to realistically give themselves a chance of beating Manchester City to the title and this game is filled with intricate subplots.

Indeed, it could well be Rafa Benitez’s final home game at St. James’ Park with the Newcastle gaffer’s future at the club in serious doubt, while he’ll also have a say – for better or worse – in the title hopes of the club he almost took to the Premier League crown, amongst other achievements, back in the 2008/09 season.

Accordingly, host James Jones, #FIFpod regular Christy Malyan and guest George Dagless – the acting editor of Football League World – question Benitez’s mindset for this game, as well as Newcastle’s potential future without him.

The agenda also includes whether centre-back Virgil van Dijk deserved to win the PFA Player of the Year award, looking at which current Liverpool stars would and wouldn’t make it into Benitez’s runner-up team and scrutinising the entertainment factor of this almost-perfect title race.

تحدث نادر شوقي وكيل اللاعبين عن سبب خلافه مع أحمد فتحي لاعب الأهلي السابق والمنضم حديثا إلى بيراميدز.

وأتم أحمد فتحي تعاقده مع نادي بيراميدز للانضمام له، عقب نهاية الموسم الحالي في عقد يمتد لـ3 سنوات.

وقال شوقي خلال استضافته ببرنامج “ملعب أون تايم” عبر شاشة “أون تايم سبورت”: “من الممكن أن أعطي أحمد فتحي عذره بسبب عامل السن وهذا الفارق بينه وبين رمضان صبحي، اختلافي مع فتحي إنه في شهر يناير أو فبراير الماضي كان من الممكن أن يقول إنه سينتقل إلى بيراميدز ولا يماطل مع الأهلي”.

وتابع: “لأنه في شهر أغسطس العام الماضي، جلسنا أنا وهو مع ممدوح عيد وسيد عبد الحفيظ لنتفاوض، واتفق أحمد فتحي على أنه سيظل حتى نهاية مباراة السوبر وسيرحل في شهر يناير والأمور كانت سلسة وسيرحل بمقابل 15 مليون جنيه سيدخلون خزينة الأهلي، وحتى النادي قال لا نريد الـ15 مليونًا، اختلافي معه كان أنه يعلن أنه سينتقل إلى بيراميدز بالاتفاق مع الأهلي في يناير وينتهى الأمر”.

وأضاف: “أحمد فتحي ذكي جدا وقلب الكفة والهجوم عليه لصالحه وأدى برجولة في النادي الأهلي حتى آخر مباراة، وسعيد بأنه اختتم مشواره في القلعة الحمراء بشكل جيد”.

وانتقل نادر شوقي للحديث عن طاهر محمد طاهر لاعب الأهلي الجديد: “هو لاعب جيد جدا، ذهبت لوالده منذ سنتين لكي أقنعه بأن أمثل اللاعب ولكن لم يحدث نصيب، لكن هو رائع وسيضيف للأهلي لأنه لا يوجد مثل نوعيته في المارد الأحمر”.

وأتم: “وجدت الاحترام والتفاهم في التعامل مع النادي الأهلي، شرف لي العمل مع القلعة الحمراء والجلوس مع رئيسها وأن أجلب لاعبين للمارد الأحمر”.

فاز فريق فولفسبورج على نظيره هوفنهايم، بهدفين مقابل هدف، في المباراة التي جمعت بينهما، مساء اليوم الأحد، على ملعب “فولكسواجن ارينا”، ضمن لقاءات الجولة السابعة من الدوري الألماني.

المباراة لم تشهد مشاركة لاعبنا المصري عمر مرموش، حيث جلس على مقاعد البدلاء، طوال الـ90 دقيقة.

انتهى الشوط الأول من المباراة، بتقدم أصحاب الأرض بهدفين نظيفين، الهدف الأول، سجّله ريناتو ستيفين في الدقيقة الخامسة، وفي الدقيقة 26 أحرز فيجورست الهدف الثاني لـ فولفسبورج.

وفي الشوط الثاني من المباراة، سجّل سارجيس أداميان، هدف تقليص الفارق لـ هوفنهايم، ولكن ذلك لم يكن كافيًا، ليعود فريقه في النتيجة.

هذا الانتصار رفع رصيد فولفسبورج للنقطة 11، ليتواجد في المركز الخامس في سلم ترتيب البوندزليجا، فيما توقف رصيد هوفنهايم عند سبع نقاط بالمركز الثالث عشر في سلم الترتيب.

When Aaron Ramsey went down with a hamstring injury against Napoli, it looked to be the last time Arsenal fans would see the midfielder in the red and white kit, and since then things have gone from bad to worse.

Since being out on the injury table Arsenal have played three games in the Premier League, three games the club absolutely had to win in order to keep their promising bid for top-four alive, and what happened?

The Gunners lost all three games, conceded nine goals, and looked as disjointed and pathetic as a team as they ever have been this season, and it’s no coincidence that these poor results have happened when Ramsey has been away from the team with injury.

The Welsh midfielder is without question one of Arsenal’s most important players this season, and when Ramsey isn’t in the team the Gunners suffer massively, losing both creative quality in the midfielder and an extra man who likes to go forward and cause damage.

With no Ramsey in the past few games, Arsenal have looked like an empty shell of the team that once looked likely to qualify for Champions League with relative ease.

The midfield has played without passion or fun, both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have been missing in these recent must-win matches, and the general mood of the team has been down since Ramsey’s injury.

The absence of the future Juventus man has been felt massively in the Arsenal team, and if they can’t get results without their talisman midfielder in the side, the Gunners are in for a shock next season when Ramsey is no longer in north London.

Newcastle have been brilliant at times this season and if Rafa Benitez does decide to stay, the fans truly believe in a very bright future for the club. Yes, it really is the hope that kills you when it comes to supporting the Toon, isn’t it? 

Frustratingly, the foundations at Newcastle United are there for all to see. With the right backing, it wouldn’t be unthinkable to see the Magpies fighting for a place in Europe but important steps must be taken to reach that stage.

Firstly, either Mike Ashley must leave, or stump up the required funds to make brilliance happen. Secondly, Rafa Benitez has to stay, then real hope can ensue. With that in mind, this summer is essential for their progression as a club. With the right players brought it, not only will they likely remain a Premier League side, they could really kick-on as well.

As much as fans would love to see big name players arrive at St James’ Park, sometimes the acquisition of squad players is also vital. One player previously linked with a move to Newcastle was Andreas Samaris, and that is someone they should look to rekindle an interest in.

Samaris, who was signed for £9 million back in 2014 (as per Transfermarkt), is a talented midfielder that is set to leave Benfica on a free this summer, in search of a new challenge.

The 29-year-old is most definitely experienced, having been capped by Greece 35 times during his career thus far.

Not only that, he has also been a regular in Portugal still this season, despite the brilliant young talent Benfica have breaking through. If he can make 25 appearances, score two goals and assist another two as well, the impact he could make at Newcastle is unthinkable.

Thought to be close to a move to Tyneside in January before a late collapse, the Magpies should relaunch a move, given the state of their current midfielder.

Of course,  it would make perfect sense to sign Samaris with Isaac Hayden reportedly (as per Telegraph) determined to leave St James’ Park this summer. He’d be the perfect replacement for the Englishman as he can produce goals and assists in the final third, as well as using his passing ability and defensive qualities to good effect.

Think a much, much better Mo Diame.

In a deep-lying role, Samaris would be well used by Newcastle to sit and protect their defensive line and who knows, he could be a right bargain if it works out.

West Ham United fans on Twitter have been split on the latest rumour involving their club, connecting them with Porto striker Moussa Marega.

A report in Portugal has suggested that the Mali international captain will be leaving his current team in the summer transfer window for €40million (£34.87m).

His next destination looks set to be the London Stadium according to that same report as the 28-year-old has always dreamed of a move to the Premier League.

Marega is a proven UEFA Champions League striker with six goals and three assists for the Blue and Whites in this year’s tournament as well as a further 15 strikes and eight assists across the three other competitions.

However, this isn’t enough to convince some members of the Claret & Blue Army who were reacting to the rumour as they proclaimed that they would rather see fellow target Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo signed instead, whilst others seemed excited about the idea of the centre-forward plying his trade in West Ham colours.

Roy Hodgson reiterated in his post-Bournemouth comments that Crystal Palace would love to extend Michy Batshuayi’s stay in south London after the Belgian struck twice against the Cherries, although this could well be taken out of the Eagles’ hands, with Chelsea under a transfer ban and therefore likely to be reluctant to sell players.

The striker has notched six times in 11 starts, outscoring all of Palace’s other options up front, and has gelled in well with the other members of the team, striking up a deadly partnership with wingers Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha.

This trio were at their very best at Selhurst Park last weekend, with Batshuayi scoring his side’s first two goals, Zaha having a hand in all five and Townsend netting the decider later on.

In Hodgson’s opinion, it would be a great shame if the Eagles strike-force were to be broken up this summer, as Palace seem to have found the missing piece in their jigsaw in the past few months, but are there better options out there? “I’m a huge fan of Batshuayi and I think it goes without saying that he’d be a massive upgrade on Christian Benteke. When he’s in the mood he is clinical inside the 18-yard-box and an intricate link-up player to have in the final-third. Whether Palace can afford him, of course, is a different story, but he should certainly be at the top of Hodgson’s wish list if he’s available at a reasonable price.”

“Since he arrived on loan from Chelsea back in January, Batshuayi has blown hot and cold. He has shown he can put the ball in the back of the net and has an excellent record in red and blue, whilst he will almost certainly hit double figures should he sign permanently. However, he has shown that he struggles as a lone striker at times, the system that Hodgson prefers. It would be an expensive gamble, of which Palace have made too many of recently; perhaps a delve into the Championship for someone like Che Adams would be a better idea.”
