Arsenal fans poke fun at club’s tweet about North London showdown

The North London derby is arguably one of the first matches that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur fans look for when the fixture list is announced.

Saturday lunchtime will mark the first of two Premier League showdowns between the pair this season.

Arsenal’s home of the Emirates will stage the contest, but Tottenham head into the clash as slight favourites as they sit four points above their enemies in the league table.

Last season, Spurs finished above the Gunners for the first time in 22 years, and even though Arsenal dwarf their rivals in the trophy department, there has been a subtle power shift.

Arsene Wenger’s side will be hoping to recover from their last league outing – a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Ahead of the derby, Arsenal’s Twitter page shared a link to an interview with the manager.

The leading question in the post attracted some sarcastic comments from the club’s supporters.

Manchester United hold talks with Moussa Dembele over move to Old Trafford

According to L’Equipe (via the Daily Express), Manchester United have held talks with Celtic star Moussa Dembele over a proposed move to Old Trafford.

What’s the Story?

Reports in France suggest that Celtic star Moussa Dembele is in discussions with Manchester United over a proposed transfer in the summer. The 21-year-old striker reportedly held talks with the Red Devils in the summer but a move failed to materialise.

However, it is now believed that the Jose Mourinho is keen to re-negotiate with Dembele in an attempt to land him in the summer.

How good has Dembele been this season?

Once again, Moussa Dembele has demonstrated why he is the best player in Scotland and one of the brightest young attacking talents in Europe.

The former Fulham man has featured in 12 games for the Bhoys this season, scoring 7 times and winning high praise from both the fans and his manager Brendan Rodgers.

Would Dembele be a good signing for Manchester United?

Lightning quick and with fantastic dribbling and shooting ability, Dembele is certainly a genuine talent.

However, it would be interesting to see how the Frenchman, who is valued at £4.5million by Transfermarkt, would fare in the Premier League.

The lack of quality defenders in the Scottish Premiership allows Dembele to dominate games. He would certainly not be given the time and space on the ball south of the border than he is warranted north.

While he wouldn’t be an immediate starter for United, he is certainly a worthwhile investment for the future.

Southampton fans react as former boss Adkins returns to management

Nigel Adkins spent three years in charge of Southampton between 2010 and 2013.

The former goalkeeper earned promotion in two consecutive seasons while in charge of the Saints.

Adkins guided the team from League One to the Championship in the 2010-11 campaign and then went one better the following season.

The Saints finished second to claim a promotion spot to the Premier League, where the club have remained ever since.

Adkins failed to make it through the club’s first season back in the top flight, though, as he was sacked in January 2013 and replaced by Mauricio Pochettino.

The Birkenhead-born coach went on to manage Reading and Sheffield United, and this week, he was appointed as the new manager of Hull City.

Adkins had been out of work since his departure from Bramall Lane in May last year, and now that he is back in the managerial merry-go-round, Southampton fans have had their say on Twitter.

In Focus: West Ham need to think about the future as they consider selling Quina

According to reports in the Daily Mail, West Ham United are prepared to cash in on 18-year-old starlet Domingos Quina, with Liverpool leading the chase for the teenager.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Mail says that even though the Portugal U20 international is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League, Irons boss David Moyes doesn’t feel as though he will be able to give the versatile midfielder many opportunities with the club currently embroiled in a relegation battle.

As a result, the Daily Mail says that the east London outfit are willing to listen to offers for the 18-year-old during the January transfer window, and they expect to make a big profit on the player they signed from Chelsea’s academy in 2016.

The report adds that Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign the exciting youngster, who is already being tipped to be a future star for the Portugal national team.

How has Quina done this season?

Despite West Ham’s struggles this term, the teenager is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football for the club, although he has made the squad on three occasions since Moyes replaced Slaven Bilic in November.

Quina did feature twice from the substitutes’ bench in the EFL Cup however, while he has been a regular for the U23 side during the current campaign.

Should West Ham sell him in January?

Considering the potential and quality he seems to have, it would certainly be a strange decision for the Irons to sell the 18-year-old in the New Year – especially to a fellow Premier League team.

While they may be able to make a significant profit on the Portuguese youngster, he could also prove to be a key player for them in the future, and perhaps the club need to think about that fact rather than what is happening in the present.

Manchester United have to hijack West Ham’s move for Lascelles

According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, West Ham have a had a £25 million bid rejected by Newcastle United for Jamaal Lascelles.

Lascelles was an absolute rock at the back for the Magpies last season as Rafa Benitez’s newly-promoted Newcastle side secured a surprise 10th place finish in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old’s performances were always going to attract rival clubs’ interests and so it has proved with the materialisation of this offer from West Ham.

Whilst West Ham are a massive club, Lascelles may feel he can set his sights higher than the Hammers, and with good reason. His form and displays of leadership last season suggest a Champions League level player, and one Champions League club in particular ought to be considering a move for the as-yet-uncapped Englishman.

The Breakdown

Manchester United have been linked with a host of big name centre-backs from all across Europe already this summer. When examining the attributes Mourinho’s back line currently lacks though, it become clear that Lascelles would likely be the one of the best fits out there.

The Red Devils’ defensive unit showed itself to lack leadership and a commanding, organising presence last season. That is the function Lascelles serves so ably at St James’ Park, and in doing so, elevates the game of those around him.

The arrival of Lascelles at Old Trafford then would not only allow Mourinho to become less reliant upon the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, but the Newcastle man could even help United to get the best out of Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo, who should flourish under his guidance.

Transfermarkt value Lascelles at £13.5 million. West Ham have already proved that £25 million won’t be enough to convince Newcastle to part with their captain, but United have the financial might to force the issue. The promise of Champions League football could even encourage Lascelles to push for the move himself.

Liverpool fans convinced Alisson is signing after his agent ‘liked’ Instagram post

The ‘Alisson to Liverpool’ rumours continue to rumble on, but with just over three weeks left until the transfer window shuts, the club need to get a move on if they are to bring in a new goalkeeper.

After Loris Karius’s costly mistakes during the Reds’ 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May, most fans have been keen for manager Jurgen Klopp to find a replacement.

If Liverpool want to become title contenders and regularly compete for honours, then they need a world-class keeper.

Roma shot-stopper Alisson has been linked with a move to Anfield for months now, but at the moment it is just speculation.

On Monday, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Alisson’s agent Ze Maria Neis will hold talks with Roma chiefs regarding his client’s future.

It is believed that both Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in striking a deal.

Some Reds fans, though, are convinced that the Brazil international will move to the Merseyside outfit after his agent ‘liked’ an Instagram post related to the club.

On Reddit, a supporter posted a screenshot of the post, which featured a drawing of Alisson wearing a kit, half of which was in Liverpool colours.

This ‘like’ sparked a big reaction from supporters.

West Ham fans delighted with Obiang news

According to club insider ExWHUemployee, Pedro Obiang will be staying with West Ham United this summer despite widespread interest in the midfielder.

Obiang has been strongly linked with a move to Serie A, and it is understood that Atalanta recently made a bid for the central midfielder.

However, new West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is believed to view Obiang as a key player for the 2018-19 campaign, and it would be fair to say that the news has gone down very well with the club’s supporters.

Obiang moved to West Ham from Sampdoria in the summer of 2015, and he has made 87 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions.

The 6ft 1in midfielder has not brought too much in the way of goals or assists – just three and two respectively – but he has certainly been a consistent performer at the London Stadium.A knee injury forced him to miss a lot of football in the second half of last season, but he still managed 21 Premier League appearances.A selection of the Twitter reaction from the West Ham fans can be seen below:

Middlesbrough fans interested in Canos deal

Brentford attacker Sergi Canos is a transfer target for Middlesbrough in this summer’s window – as reported by TEAMtalk.

Indeed, with Adama Traore widely expected to move on ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, Boro are being linked with a number of attackers.

Canos, who spent time with Barcelona during his youth career, actually made his debut as a professional footballer at Liverpool during the 2015-16 campaign.

The 21-year-old has also since represented Norwich City, but has been with Brentford since joining the club in January 2017.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”271323″ player=”12034″ title=”Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus on Football Manager”]

It would be fair to say that the 5ft 9in Spaniard has made a very positive impression since his arrival at Griffin Park, and Brentford are desperate to keep him this summer.

However, Boro seemingly view the attacker as a player capable of boosting their promotion bid, and the club’s supporters are interested in a deal taking place.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Boro fans can be seen below:

West Ham could miss out on Bernard with Chelsea his favoured destination

West Ham United are looking to continue their transfer activity this summer with another huge name, however, they could face losing out on him.

The Hammers have already made a number of signings during the transfer window as Manuel Pellegrini looks to build his side into a competitive force that he hopes will challenge for a spot in European football.

The Chilean has already given his squad a chance of competing in the Premier League with the additions of Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson, to name a few, however, it appears that another Brazil international is on his radar.

According to a report by Globo Esporte, Bernard is on Pellegrini’s wish list, however, the winger is also wanted by 11 other clubs, including London rivals Chelsea, who he has made his priority.

The 25-year-old, who is a free agent after his contract at Shakhtar Donetsk expired, has been wanted by the former Manchester City boss for a number of years, with the Chilean having a failed attempt to bring him to China Hebei Fortune.

It now looks as though he may just fail again, should the Blues come in for the skilful attacker.

The Verdict:

There is no doubt that Bernard is a quality player and would be a coup for West Ham if they were to sign him.

However, with the idea that Chelsea appears to be his favoured destination, it looks as though the Hammers will not be able to pull off this ambitious move this summer.

It will be a disappointing end for the Irons should he go elsewhere, as they have been tracking the Brazilian for some time and were thought to have previously offered him a contract earlier in the month.

West Ham fans – thoughts?

Sheffield Wednesday fans rage at Abdi injury
