Bangladesh A took a 2-0 lead against Ireland A after their eight-wicket win in the third unofficial ODI in Cox’s Bazar. Left-arm fast bowler Abu Hider starred with the ball, bagging a three-for, as the visitors were skittled out only for 103 runs. The home side won with 27 overs to spare.Andy Balbirnie’s decision to bat first backfired for the entire Ireland A batting line-up, barring himself. His 90-ball 52 amounted to more than half of the team total and featured three fours and a six. Having come in at No. 3, he added 48 runs for the seventh wicket with Shane Getkate, whose 23 was the only other double-digit score by an Ireland batsman other than Balbirnie’s.After Balbirnie fell to legspinner Tanbir Hayder in the 33rd over, Ireland added one more run at the expense of the last three wickets.Hider took out three of the top five batsmen – Stuart Poynter, Sean Terry and Simi Singh – while Sunzamul Islam and Hayder bagged two each. Subashis Roy, Abul Hasan and Al Amin also took one wicket apiece. Both openers got starts but failed to sustain their innings. Anamul Haque, playing his first match of the series, fell for 20, while Shadman could only amass 24. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto subsequently took Bangladesh A home with an unbeaten 41 off 38 balls. The fourth and fifth ODIs are scheduled to be held on October 25 and 26 in Cox’s Bazar.

Everton: Dyche Could Now Sign "Tremendous" £25m Ekitike Alternative

With just two weeks of the summer transfer window remaining, Everton's squad is taking shape – but manager Sean Dyche is still hoping for further reinforcements.

What's the latest on Wilfried Gnonto to Everton?

Understandably, the focus has been on patching up a frontline with more semblance to a blunted instrument than a whetted spearhead, with the Toffees narrowly avoiding Premier League relegation last term, scoring more goals (34) than only Wolverhampton Wanderers (31).

Read the latest Everton transfer news HERE…

Exciting, but young striker Youssef Chermiti has been signed for £15m from Sporting Lisbon, while Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison have penned loan deals with the Goodison Park side.

According to Sky Sports, the Toffees have been in discussion with Leeds United regarding the transfer of Wilfried Gnonto; the latest of four official transfer bids is believed to total £25m, with the Whites reiterating their stance that the Italy international, aged 19, is unequivocally not for sale.

Dyche is clearly keen to bring the Italian gem to Goodison Park this month.

What position is Wilfried Gnonto?

There has been a litany of issues for Everton vis-a-vis Gnonto's signature, with a succession of offers proving fruitless thus far as Leeds, freshly relegated from the top-flight, put their best efforts into retaining their talented squad.

Hopes at Elland Road for a true blue show of support have gone awry, with a raft of first-team players departing the club – including Harrison to Everton.

There is evidently a reluctance to part with a player heralded as a "firework" by pundit Noel Whelan for his energy and effervescence on the ball, but then Leeds have fallen and this is the reality of sliding down the ladder.

Gnonto has made it crystal-clear that he wants to pursue a move away, however, and the Whites may well decide to cash in now on a player with no desire to remain at a side in desperate need of some cohesion and uniformity after a testing period, and as the transfer market approaches the business end Everton could sign their man.

Signing from FC Zurich for £4m last summer, Gnonto only scored four goals and assisted four more in his first season in English football, but made a remarkable impression with his ferocious gliding gait and "electric pace", as claimed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, who also hailed the 12-cap Italian as an "absolute nightmare for defenders".

Ranking among the top 25% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for assists, the top 18% for successful take-ons and the top 4% for blocks per 90, as per FBref, Gnonto is growing into a phenom with a bundle of creativity, a directness and tenacity that sets him up for a prosperous career.

Everton are also interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain's talent forward Hugo Ekitike this summer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming this month that Everton are exploring a €35m (£30m) deal for the 21-year-old Frenchman, starting on an initial loan.

Like Gnonto, Ekitike scored four goals and assists apiece last season, though he did so with the free-flowing French champions, not beleaguered Leeds.

The £80k-per-week attacker does rank among the top 3% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for pass completion, the top 4% for assists and the top 2% for interceptions per 90, illustrating the rounded skill set that Dyche could wield so effectively, but his goalscoring feats have not exactly evoked confidence during his time with PSG, ranking among the bottom 20% for goals per 90.

He would not bring the cutting edge desired as a central talisman, and while he can play out on the left wing, Gnonto would unquestionably be a better fit and could provide dynamism and 'electricity' to the Goodison Park flanks.

This does still leave the centre-forward position somewhat thin, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fitness levels not convincing and Neal Maupay's shooting boots non-existent, scoring once from 30 Everton appearances, but it would enrich the overall offensive flow, nonetheless.

Once dubbed "tremendous" and a "pocket rocket" by pundit Tam McManus, Gnonto is truly a precocious talent and could be one of European football's most exciting attacking stars in a few years.

Everton will just hope that they do not watch him dazzle and dance on the major stage from afar, with a rueful gaze.

Liverpool Make "Official Offer" For One Of "The Best" In Serie A Academy

Much has been made of Liverpool's midfield crisis this summer, especially as the transfer window edges closer and closer to its close. However, reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp could be about to welcome a player for the future, perhaps avoiding a replication of his current issues in years to come.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

Failing to sign both Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, who both ended up at Chelsea, Liverpool were left in somewhat of a transfer no man's land before settling on welcoming Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.

Joining for a reported £16m, the Japan international became the third signing of Liverpool's window, following in the footsteps of fellow midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

After losing both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho earlier this summer to Saudi Arabia, though, Klopp could yet welcome one more reinforcement in the middle of the park,

The Reds have been linked with moves for Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch, Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, and even Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips before the window slams shut, but it remains to be soon if any of those reported options arrive at Anfield between now and deadline day.

Instead, Liverpool's focus has seemingly turned towards their academy. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, via Sport Witness, the Premier League giants have made an 'official offer' for Atalanta academy midfielder Samuel Inacio Pia, son of Pia – a Brazilian winger who featured for the likes of Napoli.

Who is Samuel Inacio Pia?

Just 15-years-old, Inacio is already "considered among the best", per TuttoMercatoWeb, in Atalanta's academy, scoring seven goals in 12 appearances for the U15s, before making a permanent move to the U16s.

So, although the midfielder wouldn't come in as a first-team option, he seems to have plenty of potential and could yet one day have a large part to play at Anfield. We've seen youngsters such as Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Stefan Bajcetic make the jump into the first-team, and even the starting line-up at Anfield, and Inacio could look at that trio as the perfect examples to follow.

Of course, the Brazilian could yet have a future at Atalanta, given how highly-rated he seems at the club, making the move to the U16s after impressing for the U15s. The coming season may be a crucial one in his development, as the Serie A club begin to consider whether he is ready to make further strides towards eventual first-team action.

Either way, Inacio looks to have the world at his feet this summer, and may even have a big decision to make.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

He wouldn't solve Liverpool's midfield crisis, that much is obvious at just 15-years-old, but the Atalanta man would represent a smart piece of business for the Reds' future, especially if he realises his potential.

As the summer transfer window comes to a close, the Merseyside club could potentially be one of the busiest clubs in England's top flight. And, after missing out on a couple of targets this summer, Klopp may be keen to ensure that his side enjoy a strong, statement-making end to the transfer season.

They, and Inacio, are certainly ones to keep an eye on.

Root steps in over Anderson coaching comment

Joe Root has defended England’s coaching staff after what appeared to be some criticism from James Anderson

George Dobell in Perth13-Dec-20172:33

‘We’re so close to getting it right’ – Root

Joe Root has defended England’s coaching staff after what appeared to be some criticism from James Anderson.Anderson, writing in his column, had admitted he “bowled too short” on the first day of the Adelaide Test after Root had won the toss and inserted Australia. But while Anderson accepted England “should have bowled fuller”, he also suggested the coaches could have stepped in.”It was an oversight from the players on the field, but also from the coaches who could have had an input too, which is frustrating,” Anderson wrote. That left Root, the England captain, feeling the need to defend the coaching staff in his pre-match press conference in Perth on Wednesday.”It’s probably slightly harsh to put the blame on to the coaches,” Root said. “The relationship between coaches and players has been really good. Us guys on the field, we’re the ones responsible for what we are doing out there.”It’s easy to look back and say ‘bowl that little bit fuller’ but we all knew that was the case. I think we got it wrong on the field. We have to be smarter, react quicker. I take responsibility for that as well, as captain.”Anderson comments do seem a little odd. Not only might you think that Anderson – as a 35-year-old veteran of 135 Tests – had the experience to know how to bowl in such circumstances without the interference of anyone in the dressing room, but it seems strange that he has felt the need to make his views public. Only one ball in the first 13 overs would have hit the stumps. It also remains unclear about whom Anderson was referring. Shane Bond was the seam bowling coach in Adelaide – his interim spell in the position ended after the game – while England also have various analysts as well as the main coaching pair of Trevor Bayliss and Paul Farbrace, who could have sent messages out on to the field as required. Anderson had previously praised Bond for his input in formulating plans of attack for each of the Australia batsmen.Either way, Root’s comments meant that, for the second time in successive days, the England captain had felt the need to mildly rebuke his vice-captain. The previous day Root had answered, “Yes, maybe a little bit” when asked whether Anderson needed to set a better example. Anderson was one of the players to return to The Avenue bar – the scene of Jonny Bairstow’s now notorious greeting of Cameron Bancroft at the start of the tour – at the end of last week where, in the early hours of Friday, Ben Duckett deliberately poured a drink over him. While it would be wrong to overstate the level of conflict – these were two gentle remarks, after all – any public disagreement between such senior players on the eve of what Root has called “one of the biggest games of our lives” is not ideal. Just the previous day, Root had said: “We are all in this together and we are only going to win if we stick together.””It’s staring you in the face that the Ashes are on the line,” Root said on Wednesday. “We know what’s at stake. We have to deliver. We have to make sure we put in that rounded performance which we know we can. We know what we need to do. We just have to go out there and perform.”Meanwhile, Andrew Strauss, the director of England cricket, won’t return to Australia as originally planned due to a family health problem.

Vince leads the rabble's rebellion

Australian legend Matthew Hayden called England “no-hopers” and insisted he didn’t know who James Vince was. You learn something new every day

George Dobell in Brisbane23-Nov-2017

Vince was reprieved by Tim Paine•Getty Images

The desire to prove his doubters wrong helped inspire James Vince on the first day of the Ashes.Vince, recalled to bat at No. 3 despite a modest season in county cricket, stroked an elegant 83 to ensure England gained a foothold in the first Test. And while he missed out on a maiden Test century, Vince hoped he had earned some respect from those who dismissed him ahead of the series.Matthew Hayden, in particular, should have sat up and taken notice, according to Vince. Hayden, the former Australia batsman, dismissed England as “no hopers” and “a rabble” ahead of the series and insisted he didn’t know who half the team – including Vince – were.It was a remarkable comment bearing in mind that Vince has played seven Tests previously – enough, you would think, for a cricket pundit to have taken notice before passing judgement – and it clearly irritated the England camp.Ben Stokes, the England all-rounder who is currently in England awaiting the outcome of a police investigation, had already called into question Hayden’s quality as a pundit as a result of the comments, while Vince has now revealed he was inspired by such doubters.”If he didn’t know who we were before the game, he probably does now,” Vince said of Hayden after sharing a stand of 125 with fellow “unknown” Mark Stoneman. It was more than England managed in any stand during the Ashes series of 2013-14.”Reading comments like that gives you the motivation to go out there and make a statement,” he said.”A few comments I’ve read said that I’m not ready for Test cricket, so hopefully I’ve proved a few people wrong. It all gives you more inspiration to prove people wrong.”While Vince admitted he was disappointed to miss out on a century – he was run-out by Nathan Lyon after attempting an unwise single – he was able to appreciate it was a good start on his return to Test cricket.”No matter what score you get you always want more,” he said. “It would have been nice to be there at the end of the day, but stuff like that happens in cricket.”It’s great to get off to a good start. If I could have my first go at Test cricket again, I would, but that’s in the past now. I’ve been focused on capitalising on this opportunity and nailing a place in the team. I felt reasonably calm considering the occasion. I tried to enjoy it and maintain focus. I didn’t want them to get on top of me and I thought I got the balance just about right.”I’m sure lying in bed I’ll have a few thoughts about missing out on a century, but if you’d offered me 80-odd before play, I’d have taken it. And we had spoken about getting overs in the bowlers’ legs – what with them only having three seamers – and if we can get through the new ball in the morning, we can built to 300, 350 even 400. The first hour in the morning will dictate how things go.”It was a disappointing way to go. It was a great piece of fielding, but in retrospect I wouldn’t take the run.”Vince defended England’s scoring rate – they scored at 2.43 runs per over – by explaining the pitch was slow and Australia bowled well throughout the day.”The lack of pace made scoring hard,” he said. “Conditions weren’t what we expected – there wasn’t much pace in the wicket, though the ball came on a bit better as the day wore on – and they bowled pretty well.”They would have wanted some more pace in the pitch. But they kept coming all day and the lack of pace made it hard to score runs when they hit their areas. We’ll see how they respond in the morning after all those overs in their legs today.”
