Transfer news: PSG want to sign Man United ace

Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be lining up a shock move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to The Sun.

The Lowdown: Out of favour

Maguire appears to have slipped down the pecking order this season under Erik ten Hag, starting just five Premier League games so far.

The club captain has played less than 1,000 minutes in all competitions, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez seemingly first choice at Old Trafford. The England international is under contract until 2025, but a summer exit seems to be a possibility.

The Latest: PSG keen

The Sun shared a story in the last 48 hours, claiming that Maguire is a ‘shock £50m summer target’ for PSG. A move in January ‘was on the table’ but it could not be done in time, however the French giants still seem keen.

The report adds that PSG will have to match Maguire’s £200,000-a-week salary, something that shouldn’t be seen as an issue.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-news-11/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: One to watch?

The Red Devils paid Leicester City £80m for Maguire back in 2019, so a £50m figure mooted in the report could be of interest to United officials.

The defender’s Transfermarkt valuation stands at €30m (£26.5m), so recouping almost double that amount from PSG could be viewed as good business when you consider he hasn’t been in Ten Hag’s first-choice plans.

He has also been the club’s 17th-best performer in the Premier League this season, as per WhoScored, so an exit appears to make sense and this could be one to keep an eye on over the coming months.

Newcastle want Brazilian ‘jewel’ Pedrinho

Newcastle United reportedly want to sign young Corinthians winger Pedrinho this summer.

The Lowdown: Pedrinho profiled

Pedrinho is a 17-year-old Brazilian who has played nine times for Corinthians’ U20 team, scoring four goals, and made his senior debut for them over the weekend (Transfermarkt).

He has also played 12 times for Brazil at youth level, scoring three goals (Transfermarkt), and is one of the rising talents in South American football.

The Latest: Newcastle interest

As per GOAL in Brazil, Newcastle are one of a number of clubs that want to sign Pedrinho this summer, with Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, PSV, Brighton and Hove Albion and Zenit also interested in his signature.

Corinthians are expecting official bids for him in the upcoming window, and want to make him their biggest sale in their history, as they have inserted a €50m (£44.5m) release clause in his contract.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-7/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Exciting times

These are exciting times for the Magpies, as they look to build a crop of young, talented players for the future.

They have already signed the likes of Garang Kuol and Harrison Ashby over the last two transfer windows, and Pedrinho would add to that exciting list.

Hailed as a ‘jewel’ by journalist Raul Moura, the Brazilian certainly has a bright future, and with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton already at the club, the Tynesiders will feel as if they have a strong chance of persuading him to join.

LFC Predicted XI vs Real Madrid

Liverpool face a huge task in overturning a three-goal deficit against Real Madrid, having squandered a two-nil lead to fall to a chastening 5-2 defeat at Anfield in the Champions League three weeks ago.

Despite offering more promising form in the Premier League over the past several weeks, Jurgen Klopp's outift are a mere shadow of their former vigorous selves, and will require one of the great European performances to defeat Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos, who defeated the Reds in the previous Champions League edition's finale.

Klopp stated in Liverpool's pre-match press conference that midfield pair Stefan Bajcetic and captain Jordan Henderson are both unavailable for the pivotal clash, citing injury and illness respectively, which compounds the quandary of Thiago Alcantara's absence, himself shackled to the medical room for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool can take solace in the knowledge that Real are nine points adrift of La Liga table-toppers Barcelona, who were recently beaten in the Europa League by Manchester United, but it will take a Herculean effort at the Santiago Bernabeu to salvage the last realistic chance for silverware this season nonetheless.

How will Klopp field his team vs Real Madrid?

Considering this, here is how Football FanCast expects Klopp to field his starting 11 against the record Champions League victors, with as little as two changes made from the team that fell to a meek defeat against relegation-battling Bournemouth last weekend.

FFC graphic for Liverpool's predicted XI vs Real Madrid.

In goal, the usually imperious Alisson will retain his unwavering role in between the sticks, having made a costly error in the reverse fixture.

Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson will maraud up and down the flanks, with Klopp unlikely to change his central defensive partnership of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

The midfield will require a reshuffle, however, with the "incredible" – as dubbed by Klopp – 37-year-old Milner stepping in for Henderson, while Harvey Elliott and anchor Fabinho should keep their places.

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, Liverpool's two top goalscorers this season, will occupy the wings and seek to use inversions created by Roberto Firmino, stepping in for £35m winter signing Cody Gakpo in the centre-forward position, to wreak havoc on the home defence.

The alterations mean that Klopp will have the likes of the aforementioned Gakpo and Diogo Jota at his disposal from the bench, which could prove invaluable as the match approaches the latter stages, if the Reds require a moment of magic to complete a historic European comeback.

Chelsea Want To Sign £26m Premier League Star

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto, in what could be Todd Boehly's best deal in his time at Stamford Bridge.

Could Chelsea sign Wilfried Gnonto?

According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are all lining up moves for the 19-year-old, who has established himself as a mainstay at Elland Road following his summer switch from Zurich.

Already a fully-fledged Italy international, the teenage forward boasts an impressive return of two goals and three assists in 16 top-flight appearances so far this campaign, with WhoScored awarding him a solid 6.62 average rating for his performances.

Despite his age and lack of experience, Gnonto looks as if he will be vital to Javi Gracia's side in the final few months of the campaign, as they look to avoid a return to the Championship.

The left-winger ranks fourth for shots, third for key passes and third for dribbles per game in Leeds' squad, so there is no doubt that he has been one of the most consistent attacking threats in what has been a disappointing campaign for the Yorkshire outfit.

Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Tam McManus lauded the former Inter academy star earlier in the season after Leeds came back to beat Bournemouth 4-3.

He said: “The boy who got the assist, he came on and he just looks like a little pocket rocket.

“Wow, what a performance from him. He looks like he has a real low centre of gravity and he looks absolutely tremendous."

However, Chelsea and Boehly may well be hoping that Leeds are relegated this season, as Gnonto has done enough to prove he is ready for Premier League football, and it could cut short his stay at Elland Road in favour of a move to an established top-flight club.

The report from Italy goes on to claim that Leeds would want to receive a minimum of €30m (£26m) for the youngster this summer, which represents just a drop in the ocean for Boehly given the sums he has spent on players in his Stamford Bridge tenure thus far.

Todd Boehly watches his Chelsea side on from the stands of Stamford Bridge.

While there is already a plethora of young attacking talent in Graham Potter's squad, the likes of Christian Pulisic and Mykhailo Mudryk have just one goal and two assists between them and have underwhelmed so far this campaign, so Boehly could bring in a younger, Premier League-proven talent to replace them.

Gnonto certainly fits Boehly's model of young signings, so the Italy international could be his best addition yet if he can live up to his huge potential at Stamford Bridge. After all, his five goal involvements this term in his formative years are more than any of Chelsea's recent signings aside from Raheem Sterling.

Admittedly, he doesn't have much competition for that prize, but it's a marker of the attacker's vast potential, and as such, simply must be signed.

Sky Sports Drops Worrying Man United Takeover Update

Sky Sports presenter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed that the Glazer family are still not fully convinced about a potential sale of Manchester United.

What's going on with the takeover of Man United?

A second round of bids have gone in to try and acquire ownership of the club, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim Hamad Bin Al Thani's consortiums thought to be the frontrunners to complete a takeover.

The Glazers have been heavily criticised over the years, with fans eager to see them leave, but they may be concerned about the lack of involvement from the family as the process for a takeover continues.

They have not spoken to any of the potential candidates buying the club, and Solhekol has revealed on Sky Sports (3.30), that they are still not wholly enamoured by the idea of a sale.

"The first point to make is that the Glazers aren't personally involved in this, they haven't met any of the bidders," he stated.

"From their point of view, they are not convinced that they want to sell the club, and if they are going to sell the club, they want a big, big price.

"So they want lots of bidders competing against each other putting the price up. That hasn't really happened."

What needs to change at United?

The Glazers, who took over the club in 2005, have attracted heavy criticism for the way in which they have run United.

The team is now set to reach ten years without winning the Premier League title, and the lack of investment from the Glazers into the club has meant that Old Trafford has fallen behind other stadiums, the team has fallen behind on the pitch and United are now in debt.

Their lack of care for the club saw a number of poor decisions at footballing level, headed by former chairman Ed Woodward, as a lot of money was spent on disastrous transfers and incompatible managers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Although United have spent a lot on transfers in the last ten years, there have been a lot of failures in the market as a result of the lack of direction from the top.

Sheikh Jassim's consortium has promised to invest in the infrastructure of the club, to improve the first team, stadium and youth academy, and this is necessary thanks to the poor ownership from the Glazers over the last 18 years.

Daniel Levy’s Experiencing Major Off-Field Issues At Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is struggling behind the scenes as a result of recent changes to key figures in the club's board over the last two years.

Is it time for ENIC to sell?

Spurs are certainly enduring some major struggles both on and off the field in north London with their hopes of Champions League football taking a significant hit over recent weeks.

Adding to their issues has been the recent parting of ways with Antonio Conte and more recently the stepping down of their director of football, Fabio Paratici.

Frustrations among sections of the Spurs fanbase are seemingly growing with their chairman as some chant for him to leave the club along with Joe Lewis.

And speaking on Matt Hayes' YouTube channel, journalist Matt Law has suggested he's heard Levy is stretched across different issues behind the scenes with less experienced figures now in high-ranking positions:

(14:00) "Look, in terms of him isolating himself. There's been a massive change of heads of department over the last two years and going back from that, and it feels like he has less and less experienced people to lean on in these situations and to take charge of different departments and things.

"And I've had it said to me, that his he's stretched all over the place because of this and he's listening to so many different voices and the decision-making has become muddled. Now that's just what's been said to me."

Where do Spurs go from here?

There have been reports suggesting ENIC could look to sell with a number of potential investors – including one from Qatar – believed to have shown an interest in recent months.

However, there have also been claims that if a potential takeover was to happen, Levy could look to remain involved with the club.

And it seems the uncertainty has trickled through the club with Tottenham currently having no permanent manager in charge of the men's nor the women's team.

Tottenham Hotspur's Daniel Levy welcomesShahid Khan to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Fulham face the Lilywhites in the Premier League.

The club are also now without a director of football after Paratici stepped down on the back of his upgrade worldwide ban from football.

And now four years on from being opened to the Spurs faithful, the club have not been able to secure a sponsorship deal for the naming right of their state-of-the-art stadium.

Their issues do not end there with the future of their all-time record goalscorer, Harry Kane, also in doubt going into the summer transfer window.

Perhaps what is also an issue for Spurs fans is their chairman is very rarely heard from apart from the occasional written club statements.

And at a time when the club is facing many uncertainties, perhaps it could settle some concerns if the chairman was to speak about the steps he is putting in place to rectify the issues.

There is a big game at Goodison Park for Spurs on Monday night and there is certainly potential for the travelling Spurs fans to voice their frustrations with the current issues at the club.

Alan Smiths react to Danny Ings moment during West Ham victory

Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith claimed Danny Ings looked angry to be substituted in West Ham's 1-0 at home to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

What happened in West Ham vs. Southampton?

The Hammers faced an enormous Premier League clash at the London Stadium, as they hosted a Saints team similarly threatened by relegation. It looks set to be a thrilling but nervy end to the season for so many teams, especially when they come up against each other.

David Moyes' men took the lead in the first half, with Nayef Aguerd's header eventually awarded after a long and painful VAR check – his first-ever Premier League goal. Thankfully, West Ham held on in the end, despite their narrow advantage and the woodwork being hit, as they picked up a massive three points in the process.

The win lifts the Hammers to 14th place in the table and one point clear of safety – come May, it is an afternoon could feel so pivotal, even though the game was far from a classic, in terms of entertainment value.

What did Ings do?

Ings was replaced by Michail Antonio midway through the second half, as Moyes made changes to his personnel, but the striker didn't exactly looked enamoured to be taken off.

Speaking on Sky Sports' live coverage of the game, Smith reacted to the moment, revealing Ings' clear disappointment at his manager's decision:

"Ings doesn't look pleased but Antonio can give them some added energy up front."

In truth, it is never a bad thing to see a player show passion at being substituted because it proves they care about affecting the game they are involved in. Of course, showing too much dissent can be a step too far, but that wasn't the case with Ings on Sunday and he may simply have been frustrated at what was a quiet performance overall.

The 30-year-old didn't manage a single shot on or off target during his 65 minutes on the pitch, according to Sofascore, as he failed to add to his two Premier League goals for West Ham. He also completed just 47% of his passes, which is a fairly pitiful return, while he lost possession 11 times and played no key passes.

Better displays are suddenly required of Ings between now and the end of the season, with his vast experience and match-winning ability potentially so important in some tight upcoming matches in the relegation fight.

Newcastle Interested In £22m-Rated "Threat"

Newcastle United could seemingly be ready to raid relegation strugglers Leicester City this summer, amid reports that the Magpies are now interested in prising a further player from the King Power Stadium, alongside James Maddison…

What's the latest on Harvey Barnes to Newcastle?

According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, the Tynesiders have been keeping a close eye on Foxes winger, Harvey Barnes, having also held a long-standing interest in teammate Maddison, after reportedly submitting a £50m bid for the latter man last summer.

Writing on Twitter regarding that interest in the Leicester pair, Bailey stated: "Newcastle United have done their homework on Harvey Barnes and he is a summer option for them. The Magpies are already interested in his team-mate James Maddison, but that won't be an easy deal to finalise."

In the attached piece for 90min, the piece goes on to add that Barnes – whose current deal is set to run until 2025 – is 'ready to move' at the end of the season, with the 25-year-old harbouring hopes of establishing himself in Gareth Soutgate's England squad, ahead of next year's European Championship.

Would Harvey Barnes be a good signing for Newcastle?

The notable benefit of signing the former West Bromwich Albion loanee – who is valued at around £22m, according to CIES Football Observatory – would be that he has already proven his quality in the Premier League, having been a real "threat" from the flanks in recent years, as per Statman Dave.

The one-cap menace has been a reliable attacking weapon for Leicester of late despite the club's overall woes, having scored ten goals and provided three assists in all competitions this season, taking his overall tally for his current side to 74 goal involvements in 181 games across all fronts.

A truly direct and dynamic asset in his wide berth, the hope would be that Barnes would be able to dovetail nicely with Newcastle's club-record signing, Alexander Isak, with the towering striker currently in red-hot form with five goals in his last five league outings.

Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes

The 6 foot 4 "handful" – as lauded by pundit Harry Redknapp – could no doubt benefit from having another figure to ease the goalscoring burden alongside him, with Barnes clearly rather clinical in front of goal as he ranks in the top 11% among his European peers for non-penalty goals.

Equally, like Isak – who has averaged 2.14 progressive carries per 90 over the past year, as per FBref – the Englishman would also be able to drive Eddie Howe's side up the pitch due to his dribbling prowess, with the £40k-per-week ace averaging 3.34 for the same metric.

To have that deadly duo at their disposal next season could help the Magpies kick on once again, both domestically and – all being well – in Europe.
